Libby Flats = Bermuda Triangle

Well...had another one of those days yesterday....not good. First off I get up at 4:00 and at 5:30 I'm just north of Fort Collins and the road is closed due to the storm up ahead in Wyoming. Even I-80 was closed so I couldn't just drive around through Cheyenne.

So much for being first down the trail on the fresh stuff.

I had to sit for 3 1/2 hrs for them to open the road. Once it opened it wasn't even bad at all. The sun was out and it was all melting off. Finally get there at 10:30, unload and hook up my sled for hauling in my emergency kit. Drive up the road and up near Libby Flats all my crap flies out of the sled into one huge yard sale. 2 seconds later my sled quits. Looks like I lost another cylinder on my 600 now. Darn near the same spot I lost my piston ring pin on my 800 on my last ride which destoyed that piston and cylinder. Must be like a Bermuda Triangle for me right there with some serious bad Karma going on.

I wasn't the only one either as I saw 3 other Skidoos getting towed out and one Cat. Don't know what happened yet, but it I doubt I burnt it down as I run 380 mains and stock head on it. Plus the temps were warm and I was at 10K ft. Probably another piston pin/ring issue. Yeah....factory pistons on both sleds.

Oh yeah...about a foot or more of fresh stuff, party cloudy, calm and temps around 35. Snow was excellent up until it got warm and sticky. Borrowed another guys sled and found some good places on the back side to play.

That sucks. We decided not to head for the snowies (due to closed roads) and hit Corona instead. Same story though, good snow until it warmed up and got sticky. I went over the handle bars a few times from trying to do powder turns in the wet snow :o

Just tore it down....:frown: damn crank is broke, looks like a piston ring pin came out again....wrecked the piston/head and the added vibration must have cause the crank to break or maybe the crank cracked and took out the piston....either way it's a sad ending.

Sorry to hear about your bad day Chuck! Also a bad time of the year to have to be wrenching with the snow on its way out. I, on the other hand, had a nice scarey drive up 287 around 7:00am....had no idea the road was closed until we hit the gate just south of Laramie. We had crossed over from I-25 through owl canyon and it was fine until Livermore, then it just got worse and worse. At the state line it was a white-out with solid ice and no sand or anything. Just be glad they had you stopped as I spent a fair amount of time "drifting" with my truck and trailer until Tie Siding. There was another rig in front of us and they made it through also, but I doubt they knew the road was closed either.

That sucks

Poudre Canyon/ Cameron Pass was a mess too. A bunch of club members got caught in there behind a couple of jackknifed semi's and stuck cars... Took them forever to get to Waldon. Zero plows on that road by 10am :face-icon-small-sad
