Let's talk winches

Ok, So I'm looking to get a quality winch for my Scrambler should the need ever arise. I know the machine is claimed to weigh 571 lbs.

I'm considering getting a Warn winch as they are supposed to be a good name, but want to make sure I do my homework on this first.

Anyone have any first-hand experience with the Warn RT25 or RT30? I want to make sure I have plenty of power and reliability should I ever need it and 2,500-3,000 lbs sounds like either one would have plenty of guts for a 600lb machine, right?

Also, anyone have any pics of a winch installed on a Scrambler? The front end frame design is kinda unique and even though I found a mount designed for the scrambler here, I just can't visualize it... Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks:beer;

warn is a very good winch...we had a 2500lb mounted on a polaris 800 quad this week to winch a 1900 lb boiler on a sleigh 75 yards up a slight hill..it worked without needing a block and tackle..there is other winches...but Warn is the Cadillac imo

I have had a warn 1500, and a warn 2500 and now I have the rt30 on my outlander 800 and the one thing to remember is the bigger the winch the faster it moves. Also if you are going to buy one I would suggjust that you get the synthic cable, have not got it on mine yet but I know they are alot nicer then the cable.

What are the advantages to going with the synthetic cable? the thing I would worry about when going with the rope would be if it got cut up on rocks, branches, trail debris, etc.... Also, how would the rope hold up to getting wet as compared to the steel cable?

I've been leaning toward the steel cable just out of the sheer fact that it would likely hold up to more abuse... would that not be the case you think?

i have the RT2500 with syn rope on my renegade and it works great! the winch has never powers out and the syn rope is great on the hands. (no wickers)

just need a bumper not to protect it. knocked the motor off once

hard to see that far away

From what I have read the snthic rope holds up very wll in all conditions and if you really think about it when would you be pullng on the wheeler to where the rope would rub on rocks or trail depre

have had the winch on since april/07 and been through every terrain possible winchin.

no signs the rope falling apart or rotting... diff worth it!

here ya go fordy thats as close as i got for a pic... maybe in the spring when i pull the quad back out. lol

The nice part about the synthetic is that is does not frey like the normal which cable so you don't get the little burs on it. I've had the synthetic on my Sportsman for 6 years now and it has been used:face-icon-small-hap and it's still in great shape! You won't be sorry going with the synthetic.

And warn is the only which brand I run. Dad and I have had 3 of them on different ATV's over the years and never had one problem.

warn winches are the only ones ive seen hold up... the other ones mite be a lot cheaper but could possibly fail when you badly need it.

another pro for the rope it wont tangle in the winch like the wire will

Ya, the first thing I thought about when I decided I wanted to put a winch on this thing is that it should be a Warn.... they have a good name for a reason.:face-icon-small-hap

I think I am going to just go with the cable tho, if I have problems I can always upgrade to the rope down the road, but I like the idea of it being a metal cable personally.
