Let's start over with ideas like this....

"A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned -- this is the sum of good government." – Thomas Jefferson

If only we had men that intellegent in our government now. Unfortunatly we have a bunch of wack jobs that think they can make the country a better place by regulating everything. Its a shame.

You know... the politicians are the smart ones. IF the people wanted that type of government, all we would have to do is vote for it, or people that represent it.

The fault is not the governments. It is our own, as we are in control of the govt, we vote for them. Complacency on our part ALLOWS them to do what they are currently doing.

We gave them the power, but we so rarely ask for it back.

I am curious what would of happened if the founding fathers would have said anything else. I think they would not be the founding fathers then.....

I vote at every election. The problem are the choices we get to select from. The opinion that voting fixes it is faulty when no candidates are made of the stuff it takes to fix things. Everyone of them comes from money and the person with the largest wallet wins, usually this means they have to answer to special interest which is not in our best interest.

Look at the scandals and the outright lies that get told by the current politicians. They are just forcing themselves in to our wallets, our homes and our families.

Some good points. Why do you think there are no good candidates? Why isn't the common citizen drawn to serve their country in this manor? Like most things, the way to create change is at the bottom first. Grass roots.

It's scary the overwhelming percentage of people who don't know who they are voting for. When you ask people questions like "who controlled congress during the last couple years of the Bush Admin?" or "what is the name of the Vice President?" or "what is cap and trade?" or "did you look into Obama's (or any other politician's) voting record or past before you voted for him?" or "you think you want universal health care, but how will that be implemented, who will be in charge and how much will it cost?"

what do you think the answers are?

I also agree with the grassroots idea. Right now you get into power if you have enough money and know whose palms to grease.

I agree to an extent. How many times has a person been voted in on certain campaign promises only to turn around after they got elected to flip flop? Government is full of greedy and corrupt individuals and we are supposed to just take their word and trust them????

The sheer amount of uneducated voters doesn't help either!
