Let's See Some Bowhunting Pics

Lets see some bowhunting pictures now that most season's are open. I'll start by posting a pic of a great Ruby Mountain buck my son drilled a couple weeks ago. 46 yard steep downhill shot with a 85 grain mechanical spitfire. He intercepted this buck between morning feeding and bedding. Great day and a great public land buck!!:):):beer;:beer;:p:p:D:D

Only thing I got was a hole through the garage door from a poorly aimed first shot of the year...damn.

Same here, cept mine was through a wooden fence. Didn't think a field tip would go through 1/2" treated wood.... Better start going out of town.:D:D

Sorry but no bow for the deers around heres. But heres a couple pics any how. Some one called me a red neck earlier, so I figured I would post a pic of the whitey in the trunk of the ol' plymouth breeze I had....LOL

Just got these mounts back from the taxidermist what an excellent job. Rocky Mountain Taxidermy, Pouce Coupe BC Canada.

here is some. My bull is the one on the left, my dads is the one on the right of the picture. Both shoot in utah mines hovering around the 355 mark, while my dads is slightly bigger, can you say LONG mainbeams, and huge brow tines on my dads!
The picture of the spit fire through the spine is from the elk on the left. I hit a little high:o
The deer i shoot with my gun, just have yet to shoot a nice buck with my bow so i threw it in there for some entertainment. I'm pretty happy with my collection of animals while being so young.

Tell your son congrats AA, by the way, have you found my sleeping bag and dry sack full of food:D I had to leave it up on the rubies on last years rifle hunt. You guys got some killer deer in nevada, my dad just got back from 221-223 and had a great hunt, keep it up, don't let them ruin your herds for the elk, like we have done here.

Nice bucks & bulls. Theyr'e pushing elk bigtime in some our better deer hunting units (not good) but at least they're making an effort to keep them out of the Rubies. The biologists claim they can thrive and share the same habit but I don't buy it. I think they are modeling the herds based on imperfect science. Mary's River Basin used to have a tremendous deer herd, now it has a tremendous elk herd with deer being few and far between.

first elk with bow

I left my camera at home (not required when your backpacking and saving weight), but I thought I would share my hunt with you anyway.

I took up the bow 4 years ago after hunting with a rifle for some 35 years. For the first 2 years I wasn't comfortable enough with my abilities to hunt with a bow. The third year I didn't hunt cause of knee surgery, but this year it happened. My first animal with my bow is a bull elk and it was an awesome experience.

I located him with the bugle then pulled him in with a cow call. He's coming straight at me in thick willows that are right up to his chin with his head tipped back and screamin. He's got massive fronts, 20" firsts and 22" seconds with huge bases, but something didn't look right. At 25 yards he turned broadside and I saw what wasn't right. He had both main beams broke right off, he was a massive 3 by 2 :rolleyes:, he must have been in one hell of a fight.

To make a very long story short, he's in the cooler and he dressed 585 lbs. Not the massive 400 point bull that some dream of taking, but he will be great eating and the memories of the leg shaking adrenaline rush when he's screamin 25 yards in front of you will last a long, long time.:D:D

Here's a pic of the freak.

There are few things that will get your blood pumping then calling in a pissed off bull elk and having him walk in screaming at you.

I have some video footage I will try and get edited and posted up here. All from within the last 3 weeks. Have some nice scraps between some nice herd bulls.
