Legend ZX2SR

So I've been doing some forum lurking, and I came across some oil called Legend ZX2SR. Seems like many people really like it. But the threads were pretty old. Is this stuff still as awesome as it was 8 years ago? Hows it compare to VES gold?

I still use it in my sled, used it for years without issue. I haven't read anything negative about it although I haven't been searching for dirt either.

Hasn't changed, tho I haven't bought any this year, still have a case left, and still running it. It's dino oil, not synthetic, but with a low pour point. It can be tough find, seems like the fledging dealer network from a few years ago was torn apart, and the owner was difficult to work with. Don't know, I've only bought direct, from him at a show, or shipped direct. Last bought a few cases in 2015. No VES issues that I've personally seen, running both Legend and Gold in different sleds and cleaning VES at the same time (usually run Gold in at least the first year of warranty, just because). Most don't complain about the smell. Seems to mix well with gas, too.

Ran it in normal sleds, boosted sleds and dirt bikes since probably 2008 or so. Never had exhaust valve issues and never shelled a motor on my old boosted cat. My KTM 300 has over 150 hard hours on it and I could probably get another 50 out of it, but I'm doing the top end this week as normal maintenance. That bike has had legend run in it since its first tank. Its good oil by my count.

I have ran it for a few years and no issues. Had a local dealer in Spokane WA/Skadi on the forums where I purchased it originally.

Great oil and depending on location about same price as VES Gold.

Smells great too!!

Im gonna stick with Ves Gold till my warranty runs out. Just seemed like this was the fountain of youth based on the threads I was reading. lol

Polaris can put whatever sticker they want on the oil tank, but legally they CAN NOT deny you warranty because you ran an oil other than what they "recommended" Unless they supplied you with the oil you were supposed to use free of charge as part of the original purchase for the warranty period, they cannot legally deny you warranty. They clearly play all the games with this they can, but you can fight back by being incredibly nasty with their area reps, dealer, etc.

IDK, I think the "regular" or dino 2 stroke oils typically have better lubricity than the synthetics do in a 2 stroke application, but the ultimate moral of the story is .... run whatever oil you want. Its pretty much emotional pennies at this point in 2 stroke evolution :)

i've been running the zx-2R for a few years now and really like it. i have been inside and out of the engine a few times over the years for inspection, since it's a drag-in 800. it's relatively easy on the exhaust valves and sticks well to all parts during storage. it also has a pleasant smell, imo. poo gold smells great until you burn it, again imo.

i got a case of zx-2r last month from paaso and found the price to still be good, especially when compared to the poo gold. there are a lot of good oils out there and some really mediocre ones too. fwiw, i'd look for a reasonably priced quality oil that you can stand to smell and get your riding partners to chip in on a drum or a couple cases. after all, you'll be smelling their exhaust a bit too.

What difference does it make? Do you really think that a particular oil will get your POO 800 engine to last as long as a Doo 800 or 850?

Anybody up here in Alaska know where we can get this stuff local? I'm in the Fairbanks area.

From the Legend Website.

ALASKA Sled Supply
Attn: Josh Anderson
T. 907 -723-0662
Douglas, AK.

I talked to him a couple years ago and a friend of his was stocking some for him in Anchorage. I don't remember his full name possibly (Frank Caito?) SkiDoo guy if memory serves. Had all that in my old phone, but it is no more. I got 4 cases sent up from the Spokane, Washington dealer about that time. Skandi is her SW user name.

Or have this guy put the two gallons he wants to sell in the mail. Here's the thread;

Yawn!. . . now back to the question the original poster asked.

Legend, is a GREAT oil. I use it in everything 2-stroke. No exhaust buildup difference when compared to VES. The legend smells FAR better when burned than any of the others. VES is not too bad though.
Redline and Amsoil are the most foul smelling oils out there. The exhaust burns your eyes like crazy. Gotta be toxic to breathe if it smells the bad :)

agreed...

legend, klotz and cat oil smell the best to me. poo gold is a very distant less tolerable smell for me but there certainly are worse and they do burn. at least the gold doesn't burn your eyes and nose.

It's made here in Michigan .. pretty sure Traverse City to be exact ... I ran it for years but it was only cost effective over my Discount at dealer to buy 5 gallon pails and then the mess and extra empty Jugs around till I got a replenish shipment made me just grab the V.ery E.pensive S.tuff

The ZX-R smells even better !!
The ZX-SR is a semi-Synthetic

The smell reminds most people of Dryer Sheets

Ordering is easy and even a 5 Gallon pail is packaged very economically ( Pail in a Box!)

I think it broke down to $35 a gallon for single jugs and the pail made it $25/gal.

Running it in 2016 pro rmk 800 and 2017 switchback assault since day one on both some of the best oil out there IMO and mark the owner super nice guy and very knowledgeable

Looks like $34 a gallon in 5 gallon pail for the cheaper one.

But $200 for shipping to Alaska after the hazmat fee. Ouch

For Washington, it is cheaper to buy the 4 gallon jugs in a box after shipping.
Not sure why the 5 gallon bucket is so much more to ship???

GS6

USPS Shipping Break if you siamese two of the 4 gallon cases

FWIW; If the seller will tape Two of the Four gallon cases together it still comes in under the size and weight limit and is far cheaper to ship. No Haz Mat Fee as you get stuck with, with the over priced Privateers (UPS or FedEX). Basically with the cost of the oil and the postage cost, it works out to $50 / Gallon for us Alaskans at least.

Been using Legend ZX2SR for 9 years in 6 different Polaris sleds. All with high hard miles. Very Happy
