Lefty Shooters?

Had my daughter out shooting with me today. She always enjoys watching some exploding targets and milk jugs filled with colored water. I get done and she wants a turn at it. Needless to say she is only 6. My .223 doesn't kick much, but would prefer a .22 or something like that.

So after she spent 10 mins convincing me, I gave in. So I sat her down in front of me. She was having trouble looking through the scope and seemed uncomfortable. All of a sudden, I realized she is a lefty. Both of my daughters are.

So just curious what some of you have done with left handed kids that want to shoot? Maybe it doesn't matter as much as I think. Do you buy them left handed guns? Teach em on right handed and switch if they keep with it?

My first concern right now is gun safety and getting her comfortable. I will be going in soon to get her a .22. If I can get ammo.

It is not hand dominance that you need to be concerned with as much as eye dominance! My oldest son is right handed, but he is left eye dominant, therefore he shoots left handed. He has a left handed shotgun and AR, but can shoot a right handed gun if need be, which he does with his Army qualifying, and quite well, I might add!

I am ambidextrous~ none dominate eye~shoot a rifle either way~ but i make sure mine don't have a cheek rest on them~ pistol i shoot either way~ just what ever is handy~ but with a bow i prefer lefty~ and writing i am a righty~ i would say what ever she is comfortable with~ let her shoot awhile and then go from there~

I'm a lefty, but grew up shooting right handed guns on my left. The problem with getting lefty guns is the safety if it is a button style down by the trigger (pump and semi auto), it is reversed and if a righty ever grabs the gun, safe is fire. I have only used right handed pumps and semi auto's (including my 20 years in the military handling weapons), but if you buy a bolt action, I would recommend a lefty for a lefty.

Thanks, for all the good responses. Someone today mentioned a test to see which eye is dominant for her. Does anyone know the test?
