Lectron vs smart carb

big carb

lots of data on running 40+ Lectrons on 4 stroke single ATV.

for me I bought a setup 40 because that's what they have ready for my wr/yz engine.

I will try a 38 later in the year, I have a 38 for my yz250 snowbike, that will work great , the more open passage in a Lectron type carb generally has greater air flow than Mikuni /Keihin carbs due to less turbulence from the slide design. The big issue on the 4 stroke is using a carb design THAT DOESN'T HAVE AN ACCELERATOR PUMP. So talking directly with owners of 4 strokes 450 singles with Lectron, just not an issue/ superior throttle response top to bottom. Beyond that I can rave about what this style of carb does for a 2 stroke, we shall see now.

Oddly, the 1st greatest benefit I see is reduced vibration due to better top to bottom fuel atomization. That's been the case with these carbs on sleds, for sure 2 stroke bikes.

I've been watching and waiting for the fourstroke "FCR" smartcarb for a year and a half. It is getting closer, but still a ways out. And I'm hoping Tom means January 2015 and not December 2015 when he says "winter 2015". Ha. See below paste from a portion of an email I received from him yesterday....

The present Carburetors being assembled at APT, are our 36mm-38mm-40mm Billet & Cast Single Circuit, Flat Slide, Variable Venturi, Jet-Less SmartCarbs with a top pull throttle cable which is best suited for 2 cycle engines. Fortunately the 4-stroke segment of the market which your bike is a part of, will only need to wait a short time for our R&D department to finish development of our FCR side pull SmartCarb model, which is projected to be ready for assembly and distribution, early as Winter 2015.
