Leaking Y Pipe

Hi, I have a 2011 M8 and where the round gasket connecting the y pipe and the pipe together is leaking out oil when running. It is leaking right where they have the little half round in the gasket. I bought a new gasket, didn't fix it, wondering if I have a small pin hole in the y pipe?

I asked a cat dealer if i could high temp rtv it but he said it might mess up something with my pipe sensor/tune. It was fine last year out west, ran it a time or two in the shed this summer and that is when i noticed it pushing out oil. Any help would be great. I'm gone from home this week and wasn't able to look if i can see a pin hole before i left, i'll take a look when i'm back home.

Thanks,

That notch fits a bump on the y pipe if you do not get them matched up it leaks

You can use the red high-temp RTV, it won't hurt anything. Don't use a lot, but enough to seal it up. Use it on the inner and outer part of the donut seal.

After doing the same thing (new gasket, no better, even with the red goo) I bought this turbo tensioner thing from OVS.

It's way too expensive for what it is and I'm not proud of myself for wasting so much money on something so simple but my pipe doesn't leak anymore.

That is a slick part! Thanks for sharing!

I also bought heavy duty turbo springs and put silicone on them and it helped a ton.

How much oil is leaking out? If you are just running it to for a short period, then yes, oil will appear. Normally once you get it out on a ride, the oil should not appear as it's burnt off during the ride. At idle, sleds typically run a little rich and oil doesn't burn off completely. I noticed this same thing when I purchased my 11 M8 a few years ago. Cooper RTV on the inside and outside of gasket and it was good to go. At the end of every riding season when I change out plugs, I re-do the RTV since I have the exhaust off anyways.

Hard to explain how much oil, but enough where when i had the old gasket on and revved the sled with the hood closed there would be spots of oil under the hood. When I put the new gasket on the half round on the gasket isn't as well sealed up to the half round on the y pipe and when I initially started it up it was puffing out a little smoke out of that same area. Haven't had this problem yet since I bought it new, it's got about 900 miles on it now. I'll get back home tonight and see if there's a crack

It very well may have a crack, but from the sounds of it, I had the exact same thing. What I would do is check all the exhaust springs first. Take the exhaust off, clean up the area where the gasket goes, apply some Cooper RTV, reinstall the gasket and pipe. Let it sit overnight and then fire it up in the morning and see if oil comes out. It's not out of ordinary that some oil and a little puff of smoke comes out... I've seen it on a few of the 2 stroke sleds that I've owned. First thing I do with all my sleds is place RTV on all exhaust gasket areas and make sure the spring are snug.

More than likely, it's just that interface.

Do what Bill says and check before taking it all the way off. Sleds in general and especially these sleds just tend to leak there.
