large taper crank kit?

One hell of a value for sure

ALSO... VERY IMPORTANT.

If your previous crank broke or was worn out... I highly suggest replacing the crankcases at the same time as the bearing journals can be worn out of spec during use/failure of the old crank.
 
on my brothers we dropped his old crank in the new cases just for fun and it took out half of his run out. it was .006 and in the new cases it was .003. we just wanted to see how much the cases affected his run out.

i highly recommend cases also if your cases show any signs of packing out at the bearings. if you can feel any kind of ridge with your finger nail where the bearing sit in the journals replace the cases.
 
Has anybody just went out and bought new cases, new Stator, new flywheel, new crank and just build a whole new bottom end?

Or add the pistons and cylinders to that a whole engine?

i did that last year with my 975, man i stuck a lot of money in it last year now that i add it up :rant: but man was it worth it :face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap
 
You know everything is good though and still cheaper than a new sled. I don't even want to look at the receipts from this year on mine now.

I just checked at Babbitts for crank, cases, stator, flywheel, injectors, injector harness, and pistons. not including any bolts or cylinders.

MH I am going to measure and inspect my own cases with my CMM. Should i be looking for simple bearing fit issues or crank line bore issues. My motor was rebuilt by Carls so I want to think it was done correctly and am hoping my cases are good .

honestly this the last thing I expected ! I do things correctly and have been pretty meticulous about maint. especially clutch balance .

I think my crank had issues prior to the rebuild and probably from the day it left the design room .
 
Kreg... IMO... with your broken crank... dont waste your time... buy a new case.

I'm sure that Carl's high quality work on the rebuild before your crank broke....but your crank broke...

I'm a cheap SOB...but I'd replace cases as well in your situation.

Michelle "Freeagent" can get you great prices on this stuff.

Have the new clutch that comes in the kit shimmed and re-balanced along with the flywheel IMO... PLUS.... have your injectors cleaned/tested.
 
I think it would be a wise investment to have at least the TM1 mod done and the extra bearing added to spread the forces from the clutch out over a wider surface area on the cases.
