Laramie or Crooked Creek???

I'm heading out from Central Minnesota on the 14th as well...heading to the snowies. We're staying at the Ten Mile Inn..

Just got back from Tog area this last Sunday. Snow is good in that area of the mtn. Not sure how it is on union pass. As for the Snowys, in the last 10+ years of my riding here, I have never seen this much snow in January...

Riding is great around Union. Line shack, and crooked creek both open with bar services. The warming huts are in place at strawberry and green river with plenty of wood to burn, (thanks snokaters!). Groomed trails with TONS of places to get stuck off trail. You can ride all the way to lava, brooks lake, and tog if you want good groomed trail system right now. Gas is available at crooked creek, line shack, and lava mountain. The riding south of Union, towards strawberry shelter and eventually pinedale side is really good right now. Out there its pretty remote so make sure you have plenty of gas and oil. I guarentee you'll find powder over your hood in most off trail areas. Don't forget your shovel! heh

If you like seeing groups of people, and meeting people from all over the united states park at tog lodge and ride the cd around there. If you want to be a zealot, then head south towards union peak, table top mountain and their treed steeps and approaches. Everyone has their preferences though, and Isolation is mine. What I love about Union peak is that snow melts into the pacific ocean as well as the gulf of mexico because of the intersecting continential divide. Things to wrap your mind around when riding Union.
