I found this interesting and thought I would share.

Lake Powell has risen 50 feet since April, 9. (The low in the last 150 days)

It is now 39 feet below full and at 76% full by volume.

Rivers feeding lake Powell are running 159% of the Aug 2nd average.

There are currently 6,063,038,031,654 gallons of water in Lake Powell!

Lake Powell has released 122% of the required water for the water year and there are still 59 days left in Water Year 2011.

Downstream from Lake Powell is Lake Mead and it is at a paltry 46% full. It has 120% of normal inflow and 92% of required outflow. It has risen only 11 feet in the last 150 days.

I read that I think lake Powell did a bulk release to Meade as well I think powell gave them an additional 50 feet. Me meaning Powell could be full if they didn't give up that water.

Lake Powell is required to release 8.23 MAF (million acre feet) each year. 10.16 MAF so far this year.

Equalization is based in the level of both lakes.

Additionally there are guidelines that require more water is released in years like this when level of Lake Powell is higher than the specified levels.

Yea, I just got back from my 4th trip on the Colorado through Westwater this year. The first 3 times it was over 30,000 cfs. This time, 9800cfs... normally this time of year it is down to 2500 cfs or so.

Green has been running about the same... so not surprising that Powell has come up nicely this year. Powell won't fill all the way up this year, they have agreed to keep the level at 40' below full pool and release all that water down river to Mead to try and bring it up some.

BTW, Tuesday's run down Westwater was simply crazy fun.
