KX450 electrical

Hey guys
Need some advice here. we are building a 2018 kx 450. We are trying to run heated grips and a light. Does anyone know how to wire that up on this bike? Does anyone know if its a DC system? I know cyclops sells a kit and so does baja but I don't know exactly how its done. I know people are just suggesting we use their kits but we have a sponsor providing us with a light bar and mounts.

You could buy just the harnes for Baja design.

how does the cyclops wire in? is there a regulator? or a converter? LEDs have to run off D/C from what I understand

There's a plug right behind the number plate on my 14 that it just plugs directly into. Not sure about the newer ones. Easiest thing I've installed on my bike. I can kick it with the light switch on and it fires just as easy as it would with the switch off.

will that work? our concern is that will only give us A/C power? could be completely wrong. would I need an a/c to d/c converter? and any idea what our output would be?

Yes that will work. You will have to cut the connector off and put any style connector on the end that runs to your headlight. I think the output is around 80 watts dc. I wouldn't run more than a 30 watt light. Your not going to be able to run grip heaters and headlight at the same time. You might also want to run a small battery behind your number plate. You can get them from Baja design.

I have a plug and the pins for it that will allow you to connect to the plug behind the number plate if it's the same connector they used on a 2012... can't see why they'd change it. PM me if you're interested.

Just connect to your 12 volt plug behind the number plate.

I don't know how lucky I was but I could run my cyclops headlight and grips at the same time with never any issues. Grips could be on high and everything still worked good.

thanks guys, I'm going to buy the harness from baja and try a 20 watt light, 30 watt light and then 40 watt light. see if it will let us run the 40 without running the rest of the electrical system out of power.
