KTM Help

O.K. I just sold my Raw kit to a buddy, he will be running it on his 2010 KTM 530 or whatever they called them that year. I looked it up and the fit kit I had that came with the long track I bought will work on his bike and the shock will work Bla Bla. The only thing we don't have is the air intake...any advise on what others have done I would appreciate. Do you run the Timbersled pod or something else. Also any carb heat needed and what have the KTM guys done there? I run a CR500 so I know nothing about the KTM's just want to get him going in the right direction.

you can run a uni pod filter or similar clamped on the carb with a pre filter on it to get him going, or run the avid carb heater with TSS style intake if hes got the $. Pull the intake boot out of the bike and leave the airbox open. May need to rejet depending on temps and elevation.

I ran the 450 version of that bike for 2 seasons. The way I did the air intake is I made an adaptor for lack of a better description which replaces the cage in the airbox. It connects to the airbox using the stock KTM mounting mount wire. The adaptor plate has a flared intake tube which attaches to a pod filter. It works great.

With the FCR carb you cannot really screw around with the airflow very much or the bike wont run well. Its really sensitive to air flow changes on the bottom of the carb where the air jets are which is why the stock airbox works best. With the adaptor plate you get the best of both worlds airbox and pod filter.

As for carb heat I built a custom carb heater for an FCR for my buddies bike last year. It mounted directly to the carb same as a 2 stroke heater. The problem was it removed the stock boot of the airbox which confused the carb so the bike wouldn't run at WFO. I think the solution would be to add the recesses for the air bleeds same as a stock intake boot to the carb heater. We ripped that off and went back to the plastic tubes wrapped around the carb system. On my KTM I never did run carb heat but it did ice but nothing like a CR500.

I still have all the airbox parts and the carb heater kicking around some place if you are interested.

Can you run the stock air box with the TSS? If you run the stock airbox do you cut the whole bottom out of it for snow to get out or leave it alone and just open the door if you need to clear snow? (I think it has a door). I'm just trying to get him set up to go with as much proven as possible.

m5 do you have the parts for the pod set up you used that worked well, and then did you just run a little heater hose wrapped up around the carb? His bike runs hot enough running desert it messes with the fuel in the tank....at least that is what he thinks. I've never owned an orange bike so no idea.
