GETTING READY TO BUY NEW BIKE AND JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE ON THIS BEFORE THE BIG PURCHASE.... DEALER SAID THE XC-F HAS THE SAME RACE TRANSMISSION AS THE SX-F, BUT IT COMES WITH BIGGER TANK,BIGGER STATOR FOR RUNNING LIGHTS AND HAND WARMER ( NOT THAT I NEED HAND WARMER, DID JUST FINE WITH OUT THEM LAST YEAR ON THE KX ) BUT MIGHT BE NICE ANY HELP WOULD BE AWESOME....

That is correct. XCF is supposed to have a heavier flywheel too which means slightly slower revs and a softer valving on the suspension.

If I had to do it again I'd go with an SXF because I ended up upgrading the stator anyway and the forks of the SXF are probably adequate whereas the XCF forks need stiffer springs. In the end, there's really no difference and the SXF is a bit cheaper. The only other good part is that the XCF comes with an 18" tire if you plan to ride it offroad in summer. For a dedicated bike, I'd go SXF next time.

Had my LT timber sled on a 14' XCF 450 and 14' XCW 500. I wouldn't do a 5 spd again unless I had to. Just can't keep up with the sleds on the trail without a 6th gear, it's just annoying. Had it on the 450 first then the 500. Don't know why you would get anything else for the timber sled other than a 500. The 500 torque and power was just seems better suited for a timber sled. Definitely want something with a headlight and e-start as well. The other thing I didn't like about the XCF is the lack of a kick start if the battery goes bad. I just wouldn't do a 450xcf again.

If you ride a lot of trail the 6spd 500 is probably a better choice. However, around here where we have very beat up short trails (maybe a couple miles before you never see one again for the rest of the day), the 450 is the right animal for the job. The sleds will lose me in the straights, but the second a few curves get thrown in I rail right past them. I'm almost always first to the end of the trail when I'm with sleds.

The steeper, the more gnarly, the more technical, and the tighter things get the better the race 450s of all manufacturers run. If you have wide open spaces with lots of super deep powder and long hauls to cover the 500 will probably be your weapon of choice.

In the end it all depends on personal preference. Both bikes will get your rocks off.

13-15 450 SX-F and XC-F use the same flywheel and stator

I've been under the impression from the very beginning that the 13 XCF had a heavier flywheel (I was told this by another party) so I called up one of my contacts at KTM USA. MBMS is correct... same flywheel and stator. Only differences between SXF/XCF are:

- softer suspension valving
- bigger fuel tank
- 18in rear wheel
- o-ring chain
- kickstand

Sorry for the confusion. Gotta hunt for the facts sometimes! Thanks MBMS!
