KTM 450 vs 500 honda 2 stroke

Point is the refined new 450 is on par with the older 500 2T in most situations ,we have seen this on the mt,both have places where they shine however the Over rev and much higher RPM of the 450 really bumps up track speeds with a gear box tranny, With a CVT the lower rev motors dont lose that advantage. Its not all about HP , I prefer the higher RPM motor over HP made at lower RPM,s. Thats where the track speed increases. Gearing does make a difference once at full speed.I built A 129 CMX on a Honda 500 2T with Lectron carb. I get to see these all run side by side in real world mt. conditions. Both great choices but the 450 is much easier to live with daily .

That’s the most pointless video I’ve seen.

Gearing and top speed?
On the beach?

Does anyone actually pick a snowbike based on that?

I swear the dirt bike crowd is brain dead. They got brainwashed into thinking 4 stroke engines are more powerful and torquey then two strokes. It’s been to decades and they retards still haven’t figured out that is incorrect. ???

Nobody ever said the 4T is more powerful, What is said is the RPM gain and over rev of the modern 4T makes far more track speed then the lower rev 2 T motor, A 2 T will peak around 8500rpm and the 4T 11000 rpm depending on the bore and stroke. That over rev can easily equate to over 8 MPH more track speed with the same gearing . I have both here to compare . A 70 HP 2 T motor with low revving capability's in real world riding has far less track speed than the 4T at 11000 rpm @ 65 HP, HP is great however a real factor is the RPM a motor will spin when it comes to Tracks and snow. Now if you have a CVT clutch then it will upshift keeping the RPM in the HP sweet spot, A gear box is another story and Over rev is very important.

I rest my case....?????. I find it fascinating that dirt bikers are so dumb. Most Motorsport enthusiasts usually know a bit about what they are riding and the theory behind it. Dirt bikers not so much.?????

It is so Snowest for someone to call out a reasonable and educated opinion as "dumb" and say "I rest my case" without any counter opinion.

That opinion isn’t reasonable or educated. It absolute gibberish. One day you might figure out why two strokes make better snow bikes. I won’t be holding my breath.???

I wouldn’t say it is so snowwest. I would say it is a lot more thumper talk. Snow west forums seem to have a lot more educated/helpful/considerate opinions on them. We are a much smaller community that I feel like it’s just trying to help each other out and learn. Some of the comments on this topic make feel like I am on the dirtbike forum. Oh yeah,
I am away better rider than all of you.

i don’t get the whole “track speed” concept. I can make my track speed higher by cutting down my lugs, but that doesn’t help me go forward. It seems that the industry is moving toward 3” tracks which means less track speed, yet more go power. Regardless of that, to me a Snowbike should have e start and tpi. Therefore it’s not fair to compare an efi 450 to an old 500 2t, so now we are talking 450 vs 300. I’ve ridden both, and my current bike is a 300 gas gas and it’s a hoot! But, it’s not as powerful or as revvy as a 450, which is apparent on snow. Maybe soon we will have viable tpi 500s but for now, that is not a reality.

This was the dumbest video... Almost not worth a comment but a turned up 300 is way better than a stock 500. I'm a big 2 stroke fan but the 500s don't work at all stock. And the vibration makes them a no deal. The track speed is a real deal and I don't mean cutting the lugs off. The more over rev you have past the torque peak the faster ground speed in each gear and gets you that much closer to possibly grabbing the next gear higher when your ground speed catches up to your track speed. Another reason why the 500s are so lame-The torque peak is low and there is nothing after it.

Yes ewer spot on , Track speed is everything when talking snow. The 500 is horrible for my riding style , The 450 Over rev builds RPM and 6-10 mph more track speed.

4s has twice as many moving parts and half the power strokes.. that alone should be enough.

The only reason it's even close is because your comparing a 2018 4 stroke to a 1986 2 stroke. They say it's a 96 model cr so that's 1986 tech that's been dumbed down (to make is less window makery) . Cr500s are a very crude example of a 2stroke.

It would be interesting to see a modern 2 stroke big bore comparison, BRC maybe.

Even my old ktm 380 outclimbs most 450s

I place the blame on the AMA for this dark age were living through. Letting 450s compete in the 250 class ruined the sport

Your right, a low rev torquey motor requires you to ride one gear high and do a lot of clutch fanning, which isn't the best.

And the high rev range is why a bike such as the 350 works so well even if it's down on power a little bit.

Sure wishing for the 2T technology in dirt bike to catch up with sleds. It's the best for snow.
