KTM 350XC Set Up???

Curious about the KTM 350 xc, why people aren't using them much yet? Weight to power ratio? Little bike syndrome? Looking to build a MH with KXF 450 or KTM 350 xc, I want to use it in both worlds. I would say I am a at a serious crossroad, 350xc perfect dirt bike for me, but 450 perfect sno-bike. Some one straighten me out!!!

I really loved my KX450 on both the snow and the dirt. As a snowbike it had serious grunt and ability to tractor around just about anywhere. On the dirt with the Rekluse clutch is was pretty much amazing... I didn't realize just how good of an all around bike it was until I purchased this new 450 SXF. The KTM, which you cannot make any negative comments about when it comes to engineering, is just not a contender in the dirt when compared to the KX. If you only ride at the track then it could be the summer bike for you, but as a woods guy it just doesn't cut the mustard with the stock suspension. You WILL have to revalve or swap out suspensions completely. Power delivery is also a complete 180 from the KX.... the KX is an animal off the line but falls off past 3/4 throttle. The SXF is mellow to half throttle and then it becomes and animal the more you push it. In the snow the KTM will have the edge, but on the single track and woods riding the KX just spanks it.

If the SXF is as good as we think it will be this winter then I will be sending my shocks off to be revalved in the spring in order to put some serious plushness into the ride. If the bike isn't a step above the KX I will be selling it come end of season and picking up a new 14 KX450. My bikes have to serve me in both seasons since I don't have the luxury of having a dedicated snowbike (yet).

I know this doesn't help you a lot when compared to the 350xc, but what I can tell you is that you will not be disappointed with the KX450.

xc

To the OP, I would not hesitate to put a kit on a 350, they pull strong and will work well for both seasons.

Rush, he is asking about an XC not an SX. If you wanted the best of both worlds, you should have bought an XC-F. Both the KX and SX-F are SUPERCROSS bikes, not trail bikes. And to say that the SX doesnt hold a candle to the KX for a woods bike is rediculous because neither of them are a good woods bike. Thats not what they were designed for.

As I stated in my last sentence in my original reply "I know this doesn't help you a lot when compared to the 350xc, but what I can tell you is that you will not be disappointed with the KX450.". I was merely stating that the KX is a great bike.

I am fully aware of the differences between the SXF and the XCF. The SXF will be a better snowbike than the XCF for several reasons, but will not be as good in the woods as an XCF. I buy first for the snow and second for the dirt... snow is most important and I can make the bike suit my purposes in the dirt. While it is true that both are supercross bikes, the KX was awesome in the woods. Sure, it's no 300 XC 2 smoker, but the Kawi was VERY good and I think you would be surprised if you rode it how I had it setup. And to me the KX far surpasses the SXF in the woods... you can call me ridiculous all you like but that is the truth for me.

Sorry for the hijack... like I said, the KX is great.

Id use the kx for snow and save the 350 xc for dirt,, the kx has been a proven winner for a snowbike for its durability, and capability. Maybe I didnt read your post right.? U have both bikes? If not id still go kx 450

I was gonna put the ST kit on my 13 350sxf but knowing it doesnt have the bottom grunt or mid range pull of the previous 450s ive owned I opted to get a yz450 to try this snow biking out.. My 350 is awesome for MX racing perfect power and revs to the moon but i figured the 450 be the way to go

Could always throw a turbo kit on a 350 I suppose if power is not enough. Although for the price of a turbo kit you can have a second 450+ cc dedicated snow bike. But, it won't have turbo POWA!

350F has less power than a 300 by qiute a bit

I dunno. The '13's have 47 hp don't they? My 300 is supposedly only around that much and it does ok. Regardless a turbo would make a 350 more than capable I would think.

I agree the SX is not the best in the woods, gearing, and suspension wise but I do have a friend who bought the sx and got a set of forks and shock off eBay setup for the xc, he rides everything so he got the best bike and suspension is quickly changed for the type of riding. I mostly only motocross with the occasional offload so I just go full mx. I really want an 350 for a snowbike but I love my 250f to much for general dirt riding so might as well step up to the 450 if its a dedicated snowbike.
