Hi all, I am new to KTMs and need help with the carb jetting on a 2008 250 SXF. I have taken the jets out to see what the previous owner had in there. I ride from 6000' to 8000'. Can somebody help me make sure I'm in the ball park with the correct jetting. Heres the current setup:

Main Jet - 172
Pilot Jet - 40
unidentified jet - 85

needle OBET P on #2 from top.

No other mods.

I've noticed its VERY boggy in the low end. When I took the pilot jet out, it was blocked w crud.

Easiest thing to do: Buy the JD jetting kit for it and be done with it.

Jetting...

are you coming here from sea level? Have you rode it here yet? have you looked at your plug yet? If so was it black or tan? What elevation are you going to ride at i.e. dunes, desert, mountains? not hard to jet just need info. Good ridin!!!

your answer should be on ktmtalk.com.....so you're off the quads and on a bike? had time to tell your family you're gay anymore?:face-icon-small-sho:face-icon-small-win:face-icon-small-hap

it acts like this after or before you removed the crud?

this bog is at low RPMs or lower mid range RPMs, regardless, a smaller pilot sounds like a good start, although i like a big pilot and small main, whatevs

I had to buy a 16mm socket and grind it down so I could get the damm spark plug out and see what it looked like. It was dark tan. I dropped the main to 168 and raised the needle one position. Put an entire can of carb cleaner through the carb and jets and put a new air filter on. Then I took it out around town and it still acts the same. Bogs when I let off the throttle and then pin it again. However, it doesn't do it every time. Its very inconsistent. The other thing is the exhaust pops really bad on deceleration, in any gear and at any speed.

are you coming here from sea level? No, I traded my other bike for this bike. The dude said it had been ridden in the Monticello area at high elevations. Have you rode it here yet? Yes, see OP. have you looked at your plug yet? yes, its a dark tan. If so was it black or tan? What elevation are you going to ride at i.e. dunes, desert, mountains? 6000' - 10000'. not hard to jet just need info. Good ridin!!!

My answers to your questions are in red.

hahaha, blow me.

I've tried ktmtalk.com and thumpertalk.com but I haven't found any answers to my questions yet. Thats why I came back here, I figured somebody might be able to help me get the jetting in the ballpark. I called Edge Motorsports this morning and the mechanic said to leave the pilot at 40 and take the main down to 168. Tried that, didn't help.

Jetting...

You said you raised the needle 1 position? Did you raise the clip up or down 1 position? You would naturally need to LOWER the NEEDLE 1 or 2 positions depending which needle your running. This will lean it in the mid. and help you a ton riding in the hills. as far as main jetting goes 172-168 fairly big jump but not huge, it will prob. be fine unless your makin big pulls, which, prob. not makin many of them in the hills. Check your plug once in a while at first.
