koso gauge

How much are these gauges off?I put the probes where the direction said and i have seen temps all the way up 1420 degrees. Its on a 09 TM8

Bull on the 1400 melting pistons. That's why I hate EGT's Everyone tells you stay under such and such. There are so many vairables that determine where you actually need to run. My turbo last year would always hit 1400-1500 degrees. I could never get as low as 1200 without running pig rich. Use the info from the first post. Temps are all relevant to each engine and specific setup. AFR reading are the same way. What runs good on one engine will be too lean for another. Look for a couple of different indicators in conjunction with egt's.

Check plug readings. ****, my sled looked lean at 1150 on my KOSO gages.

1400 to 1500 my arse you are melting down!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you are not understanding the relevance..we are not talking real temps...we are talking indicated temps...and if my guage say a million degrees and my wash and plugs and a/f guage indicate a well running engine...i will run it with the guage at a million degrees..!!...get that through your head so you can contribute to this thread positively

So, what you are saying is that I, and or anyone else running a 25k sled getting 1400 to 1500 degree readings from their egt gauge should trust that gauge. I do have it through my head that these are not true temps or he would have a meltdown. My point is why would you take such a large investment and risk it on a gauge that is obviously way off. AFR

we have not yet determined if they are off..he has not responded back if he has tuning issues or not..i am only ASSUMING..he is running ok with his plugs etc...and you may be CORRECT in ASSUMING he is close to having a serious engine malfunction..yes i agree with you that if everything is ok that a person should try and get the probes or guage to corrolate a bit more realistic once everything is said and done..all im saying is that a person in most instances just uses the egt temps as a benchmark no matter what they read..but agreeing with you they seldom are as high as his for a benchmark...but anyway...he asked the question...we all have responded ...he should by rights offer a bit more info on the state of his tune

I saw 1600 plus last year on my turbo project. I never melted pistons (weiscos).

Gus Bohne told me about a phenomena where the probes were both too close to the wye and could get crazy hot readings. I moved them in to within two inches of the cylinder and lowered temps down 200 to 1400 still no melted aluminum.

I can't explain why temps are different on different motors but they are.

I agree. Find out where you motor colors the pistons and plugs the best and what ever the egts read keep em just south of that reading.

Years past I had a big bore three cylinder that lived for long hard pulls at 1500+ indicated and didn't melt.....go figure

koso

i have not piilled the plugs yet.i turned up fuel pressure to see if it went away and it does not, could to much feul give you a false reading?thanks for the input

Garr at OVS once told me that he would see 1600 degrees on his M8T in the midrange. Said he pulled the plugs and color and piston wash looked perfect.
