Koso Gauge Install Question on '12 Pro-RMK

i am installing a dual egt/rpm/water temp koso unit on my '12 pro rmk. got it mounted, and also thought i had it wired (of course, never the case 1st time)
i tapped into the red/white on the chassis/hood plug for the hot to the power lead. then hooked both grounds (for tach and power) together and hooked them into a lead that is bolted to the right (as riding) side bolt that holds front bumper to frame (opposite side is used to ground a bunch of leads from factory, so i assume that is a good chassis ground location. next i tapped the red lead out of the rectifier for the "red" of the tach lead. when i fire it up, the egt's work fine. gauge powers fine. problem is the tach is not working correctly....it jumps around from 15000 (which i don't think is correct at idle :face-icon-small-win) to 350 to 0 if i rev it a bit. i changed the pulse setting to 2, same thing. i have changed how i tapped in from my original hook up, to what is written above. each time it reacted exactly the same. anyone else had this issue? thanks in advance.

Scott, there is a 12v plug taped to the hood, just remove the headlight and you will see it.

is that a good source for pulse? i saw that two prong plug, but didn't know if that was good enough for pulse. power to the unit doesn't seem to be a problem, everything works just fine except the rpm is whack.

thanks SB.....hope the riding is good for us this year!

I don't know how you are supposed to wire the tach. Looking at the schematic, it shows the crank position sensor wires for TDC and RPM is the white and white/red this coil is 190 ohms.

there are two wires....white and red. white to chassis/engine ground. red to 12 v right off of regulator.

well the only one i know of is pulse, which i reset to 2 as was called for in the instructions. what else should i look for? have you installed one?

I have one on my edge. When you go to your rpm pulse settings I believe you need setting 5 or 6. The way the instructions read it makes it look like you need setting 1. This is from memory, but I had the similar issue.

thanks. tried that. tried 2, 3, 4, ,6 pulse. i need to get someone who has installed this successfully on a pro rmk.

I have a vapor on my hawk and just wired it to the coil to pickup rpms. Then the pulse setting needs to be correct. I don't know anything about your one though. Maybe this would work on yours.

wow, nobody at all?? even if you have installed a digitron, if it has RPM i am sure it is the same.
