Knocking noise clutch side?

I just replaced the ramps and spring in primary clutch trying to cure a noise I have noticed. It did smooth out the clutch itself but at around 2000 to 4000 rpms and up it has a knocking noise?! Any ideas on what that would be? It's a 2012 pro 163 with 2500 miles. 300 miles on fresh top end (no idea if bottom end has been touched) I just bought the sled a couple weeks ago. Thanks

Sure it's the primary? You could swap with another poo, or take it off but keep RPMs to a minimum to confirm it's not the bottom end. Crank pin or bearings are better to catch earlier... Good luck.

I did have the primary off, ran it at an idle. I didn't give it any throttle due to not wanting it to race. Noise was gone with the clutch off, as far as at an idle goes. Do the pros have normal motor noise? or is it generally pretty smooth?

A lot of the 11-12 have some piston slap noise. Could be the moveable sheeve and spider making some harmonics at that rpm.

Have you tried taking off the clutch belt and slowly giving her throttle to make sure the primary is ramping smoothly? That would be a good indicator if something was wonky.

if it is piston slap noise, what are the things to do. The guy i bought it from put a new top end in 300 miles ago. Could that be bad? I did run it without the belt on and looked to be shifting fine. The noise just doesn't sound good to me, maybe its normal for a pro? I will get it next to another one tomorrow up on the mountain and see how it sounds.

this reply is a little late but i found out what the problem was, the next ride i went out on it dropped a rod bearing. luckily it didn't take the cylinder but it did take the piston on the clutch side. all in all kinda furious due to the fact that i put 50 miles on it after i bought it. previous owner says i did the damage and he didn't have any problems but i beg to differ. oh well, soon it will be a complete fresh motor.

i already found that out. it did have a top end in it. but they are hiding something about it. very defensive about the whole deal that went down. oh well. just trying to figure out if i am going to put a fix kit on it or if i will just put stock top end back in.

Put a Wiseco piston kit in. Much cheaper and better. As far as the knocking noise goes, was it the bearing or something on the track hitting the tunnel??

no fix it kit then with a spacer plate? Yeah it was the bearing making the noise. It finally gave out and took the piston with it. Oh well, nothing that i can't fix, just annoying

After you do the rebuild with or without "fix kit", make sure you check the oil use and make sure it is at least 40/50:1 if not turn up the oil pump. I lost a rod same way on my 11 800 PRO and it was to little oil from the factory, took 3500 miles and install of new pistons and heads at 2200 miles but I didnt not check the oil usage until about 3000 miles, after failure and upon inspection of the rod bearings, one failed and the other showed lack on lube "BAD ON ME"
