Knock sensor important?

Rebuilding the top end on my 05 900. Got it mostly done and we had a bolt hole left with nothing to put in it. Turns out it is for the knock sensor. Well we can not for the life of us find it. And I don't remember taking it off. I'm wondering if it was never there. Would it be that bad to run with out it? Thanks

yeah, would make your check engine light blink 6 times and back the timing off the machine and I believe it adds another 10% to the injector duration so it will run richer. It runs right from the ecu and bolts to the backside of the head... I believe is a 13mm head bolt that goes through the middle of it. Were you getting a check engine light flashing?

Could be still attached to the sled laying behind the engine. Definitely don't run without it unless you want to blow up your motor.

did you pull the motor from the chassis or did you do the top end with the motor still in the sled? If you pulled the motor then you should have seen it laying around in there. I know Guidoexpress had that problem with his 700, the bolt backed out of the head and the sensor dropped down

if you have the center dash console off already move the fuel tank back or just remove it totally, that would let you see the ecu and where the DET plugs into and trace it. Did you notice if you were getting a check engine flash or not?

There was no lights before it blew. I road it home on one cylinder and I noticed a light blinking roughly 5-6 times. Does it blush into the bottom part of the ecu?

yeah, you have to pull the tank in order to get to it, remove two bolts at the back of the tank, need a 3/8 and 5/16 fuel line removal tool and unplug the fuel pump harness and slide the tank back, there might be a vent line you have to pop off but quick and easy...
