Knicks in my primary and secondary....

09 M8 with 314 miles on it. Warrenty is expired by 1 month. I just bought it, and have not ride it yet. when looking it over I found peices of belt in the belly pan from blowing a belt. And the belt that was on it started to pull the cords. With only 314 miles it shouldn't be blowing belts, I was going to order a clutch offset tool thinking that was the reason for the belt problems. Till I looked a little closer at the sheaves.

Both the primary and secondary have knicks in them. They don't seem to be bad, you can barely feel them with your finger nail.

If I wet sand or use scotch brite to get the high parts of the knicks off. Do you think it would save on the belt problems? Or am I just ****ed, and have to buy new primary and secondary?

I have pics but it will not let me post them. If someone could post the pics. PM me there E-Mail I can send them.

THANKS

a exhaust spring got into mine at the beginning of last season. I sanded the high spots and ran it all season. Didn't have any belt problems.

Sounds like one of the clips from the hood vents on the clutch side might have fallen off and hit the clutches!! There was a post about this a couple months ago! Try doing a search. Most guys remove the vents and run frogskinz. The 2010 cats have them stock now. I would also check for clutch offset just to be safe. Should be able to remove with some scotch bright pads!

Here's the pics

Your clutches will be fine. Just need to sand the rough edges down as you described in your post.

Some of them didn't show on the pics.
In the second pic all the little marks that look like water spots, are also knicks.

And the opposite sheaves are worse that the pics, but all about that size.

I will sand them and see how it comes out.

Thanks
