Knew Chain For 20 Gear On 163 Xp??

ordered a 20 gear for an 163 xp , and wondering if i need a shorter chain
to go with? understand that the chain already has a good dog leg in it?
any help would be appreciated

Nope you will be ok.
Dont forget, this new sled went back to the 13 wide chain so all of the ZX chassis gears will work. I just installed a 20tooth on mine after I checked to see if one of my gears fit from my ZX..... and they do.

I thought the 163's were 19/45 gearing, 154's 20/45 and 146's 21/45.

Thats what it says in the manual anyway.

$hit! if I have a 20 or 21 in my 163" I should gear it to 19........

163's are 21/49....the books are wrong.

the 154 already have a shorter chain i understand , they can be changed
with no chain update , anyone witha 163 done this , heading out this
weekend , and doing it late tonight and want to have all the parts
before i start. know anyone that might have some sec. helixes??

163's are 21/49 with a 106 pitch chain...

I left the stock chain in when I went 20 on top but there's a hell of a dog leg in it so I'm going to go for a 104 chain since that's actual spec. If you can I would try to get the 104 chain if you're swapping... 106 will work until you get the correct one.

Chazzer - 21/49 is close to 19/45, I went with a 20 on top so it's a little lower geared than the 154's I don't know if I'd go 19 on the top, might be too much. I was really happy with the difference between 21 and 20.

One easy way to find out is to pull the rubber plug and look at the gear stamping for the drive gear.
I kow teh 154's are 21/45.

the book was outdated the day it was printed. 163 21/49. drop to a 20 tooth no new chain needed.
