king cat 900 top end bolt torque specs and ring position?

Can anyone tell me or point in the right direction for the torque specifications on the bolts for rebuilding the top end? Also can anyone tell me where the ring gaps should be once it's in the cylinder? Not looking for gap clearance, just the the place to have them sit. (obviously in between the valves but which ones?)

Thanks a bunch you guys!

Heads are 24 lbs. criss cross pattern starting in the center, take it up in 3 steps for even pressure. 45 to 50 lbs. for the cylinders, same process. Rings go on the piston with the little dot facing up, ring ends need to be at the pins, piston dot facing exhaust side.

at least you got the forum right this time... jong. :D

I figured you were too busy with the new wing to be playing with the sled!

Thanks a ton! One question though. What do you mean by "ring ends need to be at the pins"? I don't understad that.

Yeah, that was dumb of me...haha. Well, I need my sled to eliminate approaches and to spin laps since nobody will let me speedride inbounds...

Lets get out for a brap this Spring with Bourassa!

If you look at the new pistons there are locator pins in the ring grooves. These keep the rings from spinning like on a 4 stroke and the ends lined up so they do not catch a port. I don't think you could get the piston into the cylinder if they were not lined up. If you did you would have a pretty messed up cylinder and piston on the first rev! Put some oil on the piston and cylinder walls. It may take a few tries to keep the rings in place as you slide the jug down and if you twist the jug too much you will catch a ring end and have to pull up and start over. Be sure to cover the case opening around the rods with a towel, both to cushine the edges and to keep your pin clips from dropping into the case. Put the pin clips in with the gap between the ends at the bottom do not have the gap at the notch in the piston. Use new base gasket and o-rings.

Thank you so much for clarifying all of this! You're beyond helpful!
I'll let you know how it goes in the next couple of days when I get a chance to put her back together. Thanks again!

Gonna have to make that work, I'm stoked to see your rig. I've kited for a long time, but curious to see yours in person & see how different it is.

Hell yeah! I'm super frustrated right now with the high winds around here lately. If it ever calms down, we'll get it out. You'll pretty stoked on it.

Also, someone sent me a pm stating completely different torque numbers.

-head bolts at 18 lbs, your jugs at 22 lbs-

which is completely different than diggertowns numbers of

-head bolts 24 lbs, jugs-45-50 lbs-

Can anyone clarify which are the proper figures?

OK Maybe I simplfied it and told you what I set them at. Book says head 23 to 28, base 35 to 52. I have no idea where the other guy got his info. The head bolts are easy to break thats why I stay to the lower end on them

This guy seemed to be enjoying that high wind yesterday... (note the shorts...)
