I like ur thinking and as was stated above, all the OEM's will get there. I'm hoping to test soon. I have the Eaton UC so it will be the test bed for me.
I've been trying Li-Ion's for a couple of years and they basically suck at low temps. In my world anything below about -15C on a 4S and about -5C on a big 2S is below the "reliable" limit for these batteries after sitting all night which is too bad.
I had the same question of whether or not a UC would work cold....like -20C. I know you tried using a small RC battery to charge the UC before the morning start but did you ever try it cold??? Seems to me it would work well so long as the battery voltage stays high during UC charging.
Hopefully we have a bunch of people willing to test UC's and we get the cold performance everyone is after
