I call BS on this. Even the towers don't produce enough energy to do that.

Besides, if it did that to a popcorn kernel, think about what it'd do to your head.

Now, if you hooked a cellphone up to a 2kW linear amplifier feeding a directional antenna about 2ft away from the kernel, you might be able to do that.

My guess is the they yanked a magnatron out of an old microwave and attached it to the the bottom of the table. Then fired it up just before they called the phones.
