Kill switch & key won't turn off engine

My son just purchased a 1999 600 RMK. Runs great but neither the kill switch or key will turn off the sled. He has to pull spark plug wire to kill engine. I know the CDI controls those two but was wondering if there was anything else to look for before spending money on a new CDI. Thanks.

Look down where the wiring harness hooks into the stator. There is a black wire with a white connector seperate from the big white plug. If left unconnected it will not shut off with the kill switch or key switch.

Good luck.

Thanks. Looked it over last night and the found the wires and plug. Unfortunately it was plugged together nice and snug. Looked like both ends of the wire were in good condition with no chaffing or or broken wires. Looks like I might be looking for a CDI .

Have you measured to ground on that wire? With the key turned off or the kill switch down it should be 0 ohms to ground.

You have a bad ground. Check that the brown wire(s) in the white plastic connector are making good connection. If they are, try using a jumper wire on that black single wire to ground. If the engine kills when this wire is grounded then there is nothing wrong with your stator. From there just start checking connections back up the line. The kill switch actually doesnt have anything to do with the CDI. All it or the kwyswitch does is ground the trigger coil and prevent the CDI from seeing a trigger signal.
