From Kieth Curtis:
Polaris Snowcheck question of the year with the all new Axys: 155,163/ 2.6 or 163/3"? Both killer options but some advice from a guy who has ridden both options several days....
The snow conditions while riding the Axys was soft complimented with steep terrain on North facing aspects and layered/harder snow on other aspects.
The 2.6" is the most versatile track on the market and weighs 45 lbs! Industry leading lightweight track there! It doesn't fold over on hard snow condi...tions, yet has the flotation needed for soft snow conditions. The 2.6" track comes stock from the factory with 7 tooth drivers which offers a little lower gearing, which in the end increases belt life and gives the sled even better throttle response.
The 3" track is a great track for its purpose. Point and shoot on a 3' powder day! If you want something that will walk over your buddy's T3/174 on the deep powder days this would be the best option. The gearing with the 3"/chaincase is around the 2.52 gear ratio.
My honest opinion to all: Snowcheck a 155 or a 163 2.6". Best all around sled for the riders who ride several different snow conditions throughout the year. (Which who doesn't)?!?!
The Axys 155/2.6" track is my sled of choice, in Orange This is one bad machine and its capabilities are endless!! The new engine rocks, the change of geometry on the sled makes the sled feel ALIVE and its lightweight feel/rigid chassis, and narrow body is on another tier than its competitors! The Polaris Axys isn't full of "gimicks", but it is the most lightweight, rigid, powerful, responsive snowmobile on the market!
