Hi there, I bought a 08 rev x last year, did some minor mods.. bigger air box, venting etc, and to be honest my sled ran like s_ _ t most of the year. Probably blew 8 belts, hard starting after a roll over, handle bar warmers only working at certain times. Im thinking of getting rid of it and buying a new dragon, but id really like to do up a nitro but not in my price range at this time. Possibly even getting a cat? Confused what to do.....

Buy something used for sure. Cruise the swapmeet I just seen a few really good deals. You won't go wrong with a dragon other than its already at its limits, pull the cord and go all the time, no issues. Buy an M and the mods are endless lots of easy tinkering but you'll have loads of fun. Keep the rev for a backup sled put it back to stock and will run better for ya. I think skidoo had a ton of upgrades to fix the blowing belt issues. A buddy of mine had his belts warrantied so go give yer dealer chit.........

Not really what I wanted to hear since I just bought an XP, my first Doo.... That said I think you should work thru some of the issues you have; most are possible to resolve! Get the handwarmers fixed, do some reading on Snowest re: belt issues/fixes, don't make any more changes 'till you have the current mods sorted out, and try to quit rolling it! :) Most carbed sleds Don't start worth a dam after being shiny side down... not sure what Doo recommends but holding it to the bar seems to work for me.

you must have a bad one , i've got an 08 163 x , got the updates done , got a few little things moded , no engine work nothing like that . never had a problem with starting and i've rolled'er LOTS trying to follow that stupid fan powerd apex of my buddies

My 163" ran sweet last year also. I went through 2 belts in 850 miles. Both belts were warrantied by my dealer. This is my first Doo and I still love it even though there have been a few issues along the way (handwarmers, blown driveshaft, drop bracket rubbing track, gauges). Still need to get the updated driveshaft done once they are in stock.

zx7thrills...is yours a 154"? Tough decision because you would obviously loose a lot of money by switching after one year. Sounds like you need to have your clutches aligned with the motor. Did you have your dealer gear down the top tooth?

I rode with a buddy that had much more problems with his than I did. Not sure why, but the the 08 154" seemed to have more issues. He dumped his XP and went with a Dragon this year also. Hopefully it is a better sled for him.

08 xp 154
I went through the stock 116 belts when it was stock every 40-50 miles. They were all warrantied by the dealer.
I geared it down to a 19 tooth, geared it, and put a vent kit on it. Since then I have ran one of the 377 belts for 200 miles and it looks great. I know 200 miles is not alot, but a hell of alot better then 40-50 miles. My belts lasted 700-800 miles on my 06 m7 with m8 kit and twin pipes.

Get the handwarmers fixed under warranty, have them re gear it to a 19 tooth under warranty also. They are both know problems and under warranty. Take your blown belts in and get new ones under warranty. Get the 377's since the 166's do not work on the xp.
Carbed sleds are hard to start after you roll them. Hold it full throttle when you pull it.

Hey thx guys for the info.. ya ive had all my belts warrantyd, I did the update on handle bars, I know the rev neeed clutching work for sure.. Just left a bad taste in my mouth with all the updating etc and minor problems ive had and i think most people and it is a 154 and that size seems to be the worst for problems. Think I have it sold, so probably go with the dragon...

sounds like you need a good dealer---hand warmers were fixed last year along with the belt issues---if you messed with the air box behind the sensor you might have created your own problems:eek:--i went thru a 377 belt at about 1000 miles and we ride good snow:)

go for the dragon, i ahve almost 700 miles on mine and i love it. its CFI so its pull and go all the time rolled or not. hell you could probably park it in your trailer for a week on the shiny side flip it over, pull the string and go! you wont be dissapointed in the dragon.. just my 2 cents

Ya im going with the dragon. I sold my rev for 10700 which ive been told is a good price for it. Tired of all the problems rev comes stock with. Hopefully the 09 revs have worked all there kinks out cause ive sure been dissapointed and seen lotttttttsssss of probs with the 08 revs.

I'd look pretty hard a an M8 Sno Pro over the dragon. lighter, more reliable, and more mods available. I obviously have an M, but have spent time on dragons. The Ms feel more comfortable to me and seem to do as well or better in the deep. The Dragon is a wicked sled though, i just like the Ms better - especially the 09s.

carboration is a thing of the past, skidoo has one of the best chassis in my opinion it just blows me away that they're still carb'd. depending on your type of riding i would say a dragon or an m8 would be great choices. m8's are prolly the best boon docking sleds out there but the polaris power band is like no other
