Kakwa

We rode yesterday, low snow. Only 2' max in Cecilia River all the way to the lake. Must be very careful. Need more as creeks are dangerous like this.

Also rode Kakwa river, it is way smoother than trail, although the trail got groomed into BC yesterday. Not sure if it went all the way to the lake, but it went past the Y before Jarvis meadows.

Rode again yesterday. Trail in was awesomely smooth. A few small rocks sticking up on trail, no big deal. Rode into Broadview meadows, they were mostly tracked up. In meadows where no one ever goes, there was 12-16" pow ontop of the base. Still low as creeks are exposed everywhere. Still lots of fun. Jumped up to Broadview pass. Same amount of fresh up there, maybe a bit more. Rode to far end of pass, dropped down to Cecilia Lake. The snow level fell dramatically about half way down pass. Crossed lake to see our tracks from Thursday, maybe 1 cm of fresh. :( Played remaining part of day in Broadview pass, was a good ride. Trail out from Kakwa Lake was okay. A little rough, but still way beter than a week ago. There was tonns of sleds in Babette and could hear some in Ruth all day. Keep snowing!

Rode all day on the 30th of December and the snow was a little thin on the trails but up top the snow was great. Goin in again on the 12th hopefully they have more snow for the trails.

Heard the lake is becoming a bit sketchy,,,, how much slush on the lake and is it still Ok to cross?

On Sunday, there were at least three soft spots. Probably surface flooding, but I wasn't stopping to check.
The trail was fresh groomed to the lake. Still a little skinny on snow for the first ways outta the staging area.
Check the http://www.swancitysnowmobileclub.org
website prior to going out. Go to maps. It has printable maps of the area closures and verticle limits.

Kakwa Conditions Jan18 Weekend

Snow conditions and trail in excellent shape, Lake is also good to go! Had a wonderfull time out there! Someone please come out and rebreak trail up to Ruth all covered in with so much new powder... we tried but ran out of steam and headed over to Babbet instead!

-29? Lets go to Kakwa...

Way ahead of you summitbob, me and a buddy went in on Sunday, just about turned around because of the wicked cold -29C that morning. We decided if the the sleds would start we'd go, and they did. Rode straight to the cabins to warm up, trail is awsome, hats off to the groomer operator. That new cabin is really nice. We broke up into Ruth, just the two of us, we tried to stay on the old trail as much as possible, hard to see some of the tree markers. Sunny and -10 up top and untouched powder....we were going to drop down the wall and out but too cold and only two of us. We came back down to the lake, a couple of other guys went up after us, trail should be good and hard now. The little bit of frostbite on my nose was a good trade for fresh snow and sunny skies. Its gonna be go spring riding this year.:beer;

Cabin @ Kakwa

Still no recent pics of people at the Kakwa.....Hmmmmm
Go all that way and forgot camera...Hmmm
'supposed' new cabin at the Kakwa.... Does it even exist??
I'll believe when I see a pic ;)

Planning to go there 2nd weekend in Feb.
Just curious about snow depth
Chris

Ya I know, I always forget the camera. Too busy loading up at midnight all the time.:clock: There's at least a 6 foot base up top, no more than 3 or 4 in the meadows around the lake and down Cecile(enough to cover the willows). It's good riding, could always use more!!:beer;

Who is going to Kakwa this weekend?

We are going out this weekend anybody,that wants to join us are welcome we are gonna be at camp and leaving at 10 am Saturday and Sunday anyone that knows us just stop by our camp and let us know your out there on your way to the parking lot.

Well 2 flatlanders (a buddy and me) are plannin on headin out to kakwa from march 6-9. I hope to be able to tag along riding if anyone from here is out that week/end. I know the area a little bit but not enough to venture too deep, especially with only 2 of us.
I know the Alta. side really well from hiking, but that doesnt help me too much.

Also, does anyone have any saved tracks on their garmin gps' that they could send me? My old gps with tracks is kinda toast.

hope the snow is decent, but itll be impossible to compare to last years riding.
