KABOOM Driveshaft

I dont know much, but i think that if it is recalled (which it probably will be) you will not get the sled back on the snow till mid January!

saying that, i like the shaft collar idea but I think putting steel rivets on all six sides of the shaft connecting the shaft to the cap is a solid fix till they help you guys.

This will more than likely void the shaft waranty if it breaks, but if it is recalled it doesnt matter? imo

rivets failed already.

The glued end parts should be farther into the shaft (longer). And also have some holes in it for the glue.

I agree they will ALL fail....just some sooner than others.
As someone who works in destructive testing, this design just has me shaking my head. How it got past the drawing stage is unbelievable. :face-icon-small-dis

Probably the same way the 08 XP did eh?

?? wtf, just said what it looks like. One side of it looks like it got busted open from a hit, doesnt look like it spun much before failing. also noticed lots of glue on the stub. Bad enough gotta worry about the belts (1 with stripped cogs this weekend i know of). you keep typing, I will keep riding.lol
chill out Francis, I was just joking around. :face-icon-small-ton

you've never went to a dealer and heard that before? I know I have....

and yes, I am extremely jealous you are able to ride and I am not. lots of season left, I'm up to my armpits in work until mid December. then I'll get mine

If they just extended that steel insert about 17" and made it one piece with the other end i would be as strong as steel, one piece and no Elmers glue.
I think the fix will be a collar on both ends.....then a new driveshaft when they get the production capacity.
The driveshaft threads are getting old....can someone go strip some cogs off some of those Quick-Hernia belts or break a piston or something ???

Getting a little impatient are we ? It'll be just a matter of time , the order just got mixed up .

There will be no recall until they have a way or a part to fix it. Also they need to know which build dates need to be recalled. They could recall all the sleds and then the dealerships have a full service dept. with no parts to fix them. Coming off a cat I know from last years experience.

I don't know why anyone would think that sticking a 1/2 an inch of steel into a very thin aluminum tube and then gluing it together would ever work. They should have at least had the steel piece far enough into the tube that it would have been through the bearing and that may have worked much better. The bearing would have at least helped in taking some of the load off that stub

Never mind I just found pictures of the way it is in and a longer stub going into the driveshaft would not go through the bearing. But i think the stud should have been a minimum of 3 inches into the shaft. How much weight would that add? 1 lb.?

Here's a thought.
Put those who snowchecked at the front of the line if/when a fix is available.
Give the customer a reason to be glad they snowchecked.

now im wondering if cat will make a stupid driveshaft next year
I hope not , they already got that out of the way a good ten years ago or so , the solid octagon shaft that was made out of a two part steel . It had steel within steel , one was more brittle .

Damage

Is there any other damage to the tunnel or anything else when these break? And is the track locking up, do we get that free carnival ride over the hood and get to do upside down snow angels?
