Just Snow Checked The RMK Hybrid Assault - Thanks to Mountainhorse!

OK fellas. I snow checked this machine today after trading in my 12 and my dealer confirmed with Polaris everything that Mountainhorse has said. :amen:

It is in my opinion the best choice for those of us who ride in the mountains and desire a 163 or 155 but wanted the more old school aspects of the RMK with the Assault shocks all the way around.

I have a 13 Pro 163 as well and trade up every two years. I really use my sleds and average about 3000 miles a year.

This package just seems to get rid of what I call the good or bad "glitz" of the Pro's.

Are you a little (or a lot) concerned about the following on the Pro?

1.Quick Drive belt drive
2.Carbon Fiber bonded over-structure
3.Hollow drive shaft and reinforcement collar
4.Overheating because of the missing front cooler

Well this "old school chassis" addresses all of those concerns and for $1000 less than a Pro, however you still get the bonded lower control arms just like the Pro but aftermarket options are plentiful.

Of course there are always negatives and in this case it's weight. Based on what I've calculated (pipe up if I'm wrong) if you remove the rear bogie wheels and install scratchers, the weight penalty is no greater than 10-15 pounds.

The 15 RMK Hybrid Assault " The Cooler Running, More Metal, Less Glue, Chain Case Driven And 3.3% Heavier Polaris Mountain Sled."

I just hope it's as good in person as it is on paper.:face-icon-small-dis

I clearly have too much time on my hands writing this up, but I had fun and hope it helps someone.:light:

Thinking similar things here. Just totaled my 11 Rmk standard today in Cooke City today. Tunnel smashed to smithereens. Debating snowchecking or else grabbin a 14 carryover if I can get a good deal. Only reason for the 14 is cause I would like to still do some sledding yet this season. Far as I'm concerned, theres still 6 solid weeks of riding in The West.

I bet the weight is closer than that to my 2012 pro. Because in 2012 the pro came with the chain case, plus I have to add wheels to my sleds anyway so my pro has the wheels. The only difference is probably the brake rotor and the carbon fiber bumper.

My sleds all have wheels and scratchers because of where we ride to get to the good stuff.

FWIW, the rotor off the 11/12 Pro, or 11-14 RMK Assaults, is a drop in on the RMK, non Pro. All chaincase RMKs have the exact same single piston brake caliber. About $150US for the rotor if you get a parts discount somewhere. Slightly heavier jackshaft on the RMK. So many ways to spend money...
