Just gotta get back into sleding.

It's been 14 years since I snowmobiled. And I havn't lost the love for the sport. I found a dealer that has a 07 switchback 750 four stroke turbo, brand new, no miles and it would still have a 1 year warranty. for $ 7K. Would this be a reliable sled?.. I have searched on many forums and can not find any information about these sleds.. They also have quite a few dragon 800's in various years and miles. But sounds like they are the troubled models is this correct?
The sleds have really changed since I last rode my Indy 650 and AC 580 EFI. I had to give it up with all the exspenses from the boys always crashing the sleds... (the 580 was a lemon) I am 53 yrs old and still in great shape and want to ride again while Iam still young enough.lol..
I will be riding in the Cascade Mtn's mainly groomed trails but I love to go off trail and play in the fresh powder and bowls..Not into high marking....Really looking for some good advice here and not sure where to ask...Thanks for any input...

stay away from the 08-10 polaris 800's..just a risk.
Do your self a huge favor and get a 2012 600 rmk, you will love it,super easy to ride, great 600 polaris motor, great sled. Now notice a did not say pro rmk, thats because for more trail riding you want the front cooler of the regular rmk on the 2011's and you can go carls 660 kit later, or move to a pro 800.

Now if ya can't swing that go with a 600 or 700 iq chassis, just NOT the 800's with the monoblock...600 and 700 a great motor with good long life. And you can always add power later. Even the regular lq rmk is lightyears ahead of the edge chassis, and the pro is still better, get a 2012 600 and u will feel 25 again .....lol

Can you say heavy?

That sled, for our area (Cascades) would not be an ideal sled. There is a reason why it's such an older leftover. It is a very heavy sled and needs quite a bit of money to lighten up and will rip with a few mods, but still is heavy. If you were a mid-west ONLY trail rider, then a slight maybe. But not for this area, it will wear you out the first off-trail area you get to. You will relearn how to ride much quicker and easier on a lighter sled. That

I would 2nd what 2X said and try to find a 600. They are much lighter and ride even more light and the slight power gap between the 600 and the 800 is more than made up for by how light and how flickable they ride. More and more people are realizing that the 600's are the funnest sleds out there. The only time the 600 doesn't compare to an 800 (or the heavy tank; in stock form) 750 4 stroke is when the snow gets 2.5 feet or deeper.

Do yourself a favor, buy a 600. They have a much better resell so if you ever decide that an 800 is what you want, you will be able to sell it quick and for good money. If you can't afford the 2012 Pro 600, then look for an 2007-2011 IQ Raw 600.

Sound advice.

You will be more likely to fit in with other riders that you will come across with the IQ 6/7 (the new 600 as well, but more money) as it will be a more universal sled than a heavy FST. If you are also looking for people to ride with, join a club and ask around to see what the guys in your age/skill level ride. We have guys in our club going to the 600 and having a ball since they can handle the sled and not feel worn out at the end of the day.

There is another way to look at this. Due to the bad rap they have 800 Dragons are really cheap on the used market and with the addition of 3 things can be made to be reliable (IMO). Just say’n

Stay away from the older sleds, due to financial restrictions we'll call it, could only swing one newer sled. Bought an 08 700 dragon and three 02 800 rmks. The iq chassis is light years ahead of the edge. You can't go wrong with the 600 or the 700.

Hey guys thanks for all the good information.. I orginally was thinking 6 or 700 but I am always tempted by the bigger more power sleds. They didn't have any 6 or 700's for sale and of course they gotta try and sell what they have. I figured there was a reason 2 brand new sled almost 5 years old had not sold..Guess I will extend my search way wider.. I live in Mattawa Wa. and will most likely have to look on the west side of the state just because there is more dealers over there..Craigs list dosn't show much potential either.
I want a light sled, especially for the wife, so I will be patient and stear clear of the undesirables and heavys...
Also would love to join a club after we get some sleds, can we join any west side clubs or are there some on the east side here? Thanks for helping out you guys are great.

600's are good but the '07 and newer 700cfi's are better, more power and better on fuel than the 600 cfi's.
