Just bought my first snowmobile :D

I just made the final decision and bought my first ever snowmobile!

Its a 2006 RMK 900 Dragon 166" with 800 miles on the clock.

It started life as a Polaris dealer mechanics personal sled, and he did all the work done to it, second owner hardly used it at all, and I plan to use it a lot!

The first owner had the following done, besides all the factory upgrades:

SLP single pipe and can
SLP billet heads
SLP airbox
SLP push arm
SLP torque arm
V-force 3 reeds
Digatron DT52SRE2 EGT
Mildly ported cylinders
Boondocker NOS kit
Boondocker controller
SLP spindles and skis
HRP ice scratchers
SLP MTX weights 77g
SLP drive spring blue/pink 140/340
track lugs cut down to 2"
Almost new 3211115 installed, + one brand new spare
Skid plate
Polaris cover

If I find any defects on it upon delivery, the seller will cover the replacement parts.

Its suppose to have stock gears. How can I check?

After reading up on whats needed on these 900's I've got some small plans for this summer. That includes:

Rad delete
Full wiring check
FBF throttle cable
compfusion front mount
A small riser. whats most commonly used?
If the clutch is not "right" set up for the 900, springs/weights/helix change
Possibly add a few plugs to the harness to be able to power up the MFD, fuel pump prime etc.

I'm an aircraft mechanic, so I should be able to do all needed work myself, with some investigation on how to from here and the workshop manual.

Can "anyone" balance a primary clutch? If not, its probably cheaper to buy a brand new balanced and shimmed unit from one of the recommended guys than sending mine from Norway over there. How can I check if its out of balance, or are ALL stock ones FUBAR?

Pictures will be uploaded when I get it, clean it and take them.

For now, here is a little low res teaser...

PS: I know this thing will take work and dedication to keep running, but its just so darn beautiful and the price was right :P

PSS: And I'm getting a good shovel! Will probably be really stuck a few times before I learn to ride properly :P

SICK...great find...great RARE sled...

just have to say 3 things...

1. SLP doesnt make spindles..those are HRP (Holz) ;)
2. "Anyone" cannot balance a clutch...it takes skills, and a thorough person that knows what their doing..
--SLP charges about $35 or so to balance a clutch...so depending on how much shipping would be...you can go from there..but even if you bought a NEW clutch...that doesnt mean that it doesnt need balanced still
3. to check stock gearing...drain chaincase fluid, remove cover and look at the gears...they are stamped with teeth..., install cover, refill with 11oz of auto tranny fluid...carefully adjust chain tension per manual...

great buy IMO...

Make sure it has the bottom brace on cover or get one of the billet covers.

That's a cool sled. Find some good resources (mountainhorse, mule, etc) that know the 900 really well. You will have to do some tinkering on that sled but it is a torquey beast. Have fun.

Hello, Are from norway. If so ,try to contact x-tech . They know the nines very well. Mabe they can balance your primary too.

Hi Are! Thanks for the link. Finding someone locally who could balance it would be awesome!

awesome sled. it seems like the first guy knew whats goodies to put onto the sled. if you dont mind. what did pay for the sled?

About half of new price.

If I convert the price in NOK to USD you guys would get heart attacks or similar disorders putting you out for the rest of the season :P

Looks like an awesome find, welcome to the club!:beer;

Looks like it's been setup pretty well, anything that you need to know can be found here, a lot of it in the stickies at the top... looks like you already have a great plan going for it.

Since it's got the SLP airbox, that means it has already had the radiator delete done to it... one less thing to worry about.

That's going to be one heck of a sled for a first timer, have fun and be safe... the 900 is a lot of sled:D:D:beer;

Thanks!

I suspected it had the rad removed, the last owner said it runs waaay cooler than his buddy's 9.

The sled will probably scare the crap out of me the first times I hold the hammer down, and I definitely will have hundreds on hours on it before I can pull its full potential out, but its the way I want it to be :D

Wow first of nice find on that sled. Only thing I would do is replace the stock bumper on that sled. A couple lifts on the front when your stuck and it will be gone. The stock plastic is very weak.

But the only thing bad about that is you already have a SLP intake. To put in after market bumper (I like the skinz thats what I have) the nose has to be empty where your intake is. If you would go with a bumper put on the fire n ice intake then.

Other then that do the little things you listed pull the cord and tuck tape your hands to the handle bars so you can hold on:face-icon-small-hap

I have ridden snowmobiles since i was 5 or 6, had several machines over the years, some new ,some old, mostly polaris.

But now i do have put most of my money in to a new house / garage so i have to drive a bit older sleds.

I dont mind since i like to have some quality time in the garage with mods and so on.

And the 900 i have ( 2005, 50th, with 151 track, and slp pipe) is the sled i have liked best so far. Plenty of low end grunt.

And i like to modify my sleds bit by bit, so the 900 is a perfect sled , VERY much snowmobile for cheap money:) And it has plenty of motor.

I think you must have done a very good deal with your 06 900

That's the one combo I would trade my 05 50th for! They should have brought that back in 07 and would have sold a bunch of them....but then they wouldn't be so rare!!
Good luck and welcome to the 900 family!!

It arrives tomorrow!

I'm like a freakin kid on X-mas eve! Over the last 3 days the skies have been white with snow. Probably 3-4 feet of fresh powder everywhere!

I'll post better pictures when I've got it cleaned :)

btw, we have 95 and 98 unleaded in the pumps in Norway. Should it Get highest octane possible?

Nice 900. Well as for fuel I know the SLP head requires at least 91.
Most guy's are gearing down to 19/42 for the 06 900, I dropped mine to 18/42and it pulls even better. A 3in riser works well in mine without having to extend any lines or cables. Welcome to the 900 forum on SnoWest.

Just picked it up at the local cargo central.

Fired on the first pull, and OH MY GOD what a sound. It can only be described as freakin AWESOME. To top it, the sound was resonating off the concrete walls, roof and floor!

Had to leave it on the trailer and go pick my kidz up at kindergarden so I haven't driven around the house even... Can't wait to get home!

FINALLY got her home...

After three long weeks that felt like three long months, she's finally parked by my house.
Didn't wash her up yet, felt I had to take a few snaps and post up today as it will be a few days until I have a chance to was over the sled and check it thoroughly out.

The exhaust sound was as amazing outside as it was in the cargo hall.. ALL my neighbors were in their windows checking what that noise was :)

The clutching seems, at first feel of it, good. I could ease it gently off and when I gave it some throttle to get it moving, IT SURE WOKE UP :D
