Just bought a M1000

m1000

Good for you dexterdog

Youll love it..stock is still nice and i love mine. I did a few mods that got the weight down to 530 which i believe is close to where the newer m8s are but the 1000 has more hp and more torque.

diamond S hood
lightweight can'
y pipe
lightweight seat
boondocker control box
chromoly motorcross style handlebars
piaa lights - small and bright
simmons skis - steering improved (huge)
relatively cheap mods when you want to get nutty and change stuff.

keep a close eye on your belt tension. I check and adjust mine at least once a ride, twice on a hard ride! will save belts and keep you in the groove. venting is also a good mod on the m sleds to help with keeping clutches cool. And a shift assist mod on the secondary is a good idea, and cheap!

I am gonna do venting, boondocker and egt gauges, looked on some site and it says it 520 lbs, i wanna try and shed some of the weight but don't want to mess with the motor much, how much does a boss seat save? found one for $400. Any other ways too drop some wieght? It has an speedwerx can, but i don't really wanna mess with the pipe.

I want to say 8 lbs on the boss seat.

Some other things to look at:

-Bd-xtreme black box intake saves about 8lbs
-Bd-xtreme 2 wheel kit 2lbs for $20.
-Bd-xtreme chromoly suspension parts.
-porting track 2-4 pounds
-arctic cat sells a bushing kit for the arms that saves like a pound.
-fox float conversion for the rear suspension from cat saves like 8 pounds.

Oh ya..i did go with the KOSO's fast response and side vent kits...whole front end is a vent...But when i professionally weighed the sled and not on bathroom scales it weighed out at 529 with barely any fuel.

front L was 169
front R was 142
rear was 218

This was with all my mods list above..so the sleds arent as light as most say.

Cat Rider - im not sure where you found 8 lbs on the intake..my stock one weighs about 3 lbs. I know theres alot of room to lighten the rear skid with moly or titanium..just more money.Any problems with the 2 wheels kit?

Cobbycat - how does the shift assist work?

I would not recommend the Bd-xtreme intake box....I had it on my sled and it was really boggy in any kind of powder. So I put the stock intake back on and it seems to work a lot better, and didnt see much of a power drop when I switched back to stock. just my .02.

scaredycat- I put on one of Bd-xtreme's $20 2-wheel kits and its worked great for the 10 or so hard rides I've had with it. Just make sure you lock-tite the bolts (blue lock-tite), I've heard of the bolts working out if you dont. Sorry dont know much about the shift assist. Hope this helps. MarcS

Thanks Marcs--

I cut the very top off my intake about an inch or so down and
install a cone shaped air intake which now sits right under my hood up nice and high...This way theres no well or place for the snow to accumulate. With filters i also found that bigger isnt always better....K&N's all seem to let the air in no matter what the size.

-As far as the BDX intake i mentioned above, i was wrong on the weight savings. I was thinkin of something else, my bad.

-I've also had good luck with the wheel kit. Ive run it all yr and it works great. I think it really helps when carving just my .02 cents though.

- Also I'm not running the shift assist in my sled, but I am running a cpc torsional kit. Its kicks the s#!t out of the stock clutching. I've also run Kelsey's RKT torsional kit and had good luck with it, but I kept breaking the BD-Xtreme rock rollers in it. Now im running the space rollers from cpc in my cpc kit and haven't had a problem so far.

get 09 clutch springs installed and a powerClaw, make sure clutching is aligned and deflection is set right. the power claw will get you farther than anything right now.

Did they change both the primary and secondary springs in 09?? do you know what the difference is or that they're just better?

Next year I will definately have a powerclaw on. I rode an 09 M1000 and the track hooked up 3x as good as my 07 track

I thought about modding the stock intake a little but I think they probably put some research into getting the air to flow right. I'm sure the way it is designed is to create a venturi effect at the top hole in the box to cause it to speed the air flow up and suck more air..I'm no engineer, but thats kinda what I figured. Did you notice any power changes after you cut it??

To Do List

The best mod ever is to do the pipe set (SLP on mine) BD box. Add a lot of hp and you loose 18 lbs and in deep powder when leaning the sled to right you don't get the eng bog. It is a totally different sled. Put the Black diamond vent covers on the four hood vents.

Make sure you check/adjust the power valve cables above the driven. Also, clean the power valves (my sled would bog after a long climb due to this.)

Enjoy the sled.

Engineers generally dont guess when they design something a specific way so im sure your right. Im not sure if just an air mod would do much as the engine probably gets enough allready but any mods that need more fuel also require more air. My machine is completely different now and wicked in the bottom end..I need more run time to really test it though.

We have had the exact opposite results with the BD-X intake. Works great in deep powder have sold about 100 of them. Use on my personal sleds ride deep deep snow they work great. I have heard in extreme cold 40 below the snow can get fine enough to get through but in my area they rock.

bdx intake and oil delete made my sled pull harder than I thought it would, the stock intake is engineered correctly to meet fed. laws. its mainely to cut down on noise and still provide air.

running slp pipe set bdx intake oil delete bd box some clutching
I have the bd box set pretty close to slp rec #'s but in the middle did not take away any fuel and bumped up my fuel pressure 3lbs to 48lbs when I installed the bdx. egts read where I want them.

the 09 secondary spring is different, been told its the same but it is a lot stiffer i am sure of that. but my 09 stock with the 60 belt flat ripped for a stocker. not sure about the primary.

I really didnt see much of a power difference between stock and the bd-x intake, and I'm running slp pipe set bd box and some clutching as well. But thats just what I found on my sled. Sounds like its working good on some other sleds. Thanks for the info on the springs.
