Just Another "Where To?" Thread

A bunch of southern rednecks get together and ride at least once a year and we've never been out west. We're all decent riders considering. I've been doing some research and have narrowed our base to either Island Park, ID or West Yellowstone, MT.

Can I get your input on sled rentals and lodging? It will be 4-6 of us, me and some clients of mine. I'd rather spend a bit more to get the best experience. I don't want to rent junk and stay in shacks.

Also, dining and cocktailing is pretty important. What about nightlife?

Thanks for you help.

For all intents and purposes, Island Park and West Yellowstone are the SAME PLACE.
They are just different sides of the same mountain, and its VERY easy to ride from one side over to the other.

So whichever one you decide to stay at, you will get in all the same riding.

West Yellowstone is a real "town" where Island Park is much more rustic and spread out.

Might want to think about McCall.

Hi, you might want to consider that we have over 550 miles of groomed trails, if you are a trail rider, and untold amount of bowls, meadows, and off trail riding. I have been riding here for 25 years and every year someone takes me into another new area. You can ride from a local lodge going north or south and go until you run out of gas in either direction. Great services in town, non-alky gas, and a full service local machine dealer. PM me if you want more information.

Island Park

IP and West are both great places to ride. We mostly trail ride and play in the meadows some because rednecks from MS don't need out in extremely deep powder. I am from just south of MEM around New Albany and really enjoy my trips to IP.

We usually stay around Last Chance and rent sleds from Mountain Mayhem (polaris) or Island Park Adventures (ski doo). There is also a polaris rental place at sawtelle across from IP village.
