I need your advice, I like many aspects of my Apex Mnt. but it's a big heavy sled and In hard or crusty snow I really feel the weight. This makes for a long day of riding, I end up feeling like the sled is riding me by the end of the day. In the powder it's great...awesome, but half of the riding yearly isn't in deep powder. I would like to either lighten this sled more or go to another lighter more nimble platform. I've done many things to my sled but not the major weight decreasing modifications. I've the oil filter relocation kit, Ulmer air box, CR10 plugs, under tunnel custom Hauck exhaust, Boss seat, relocate battery to under rear seat, gold finger, higher risers, gas shock in rear skid with heavy torsion springs, Timber sled drop brackets, Fox floats in the front, removed rack and bumper replaced with CrRacing bumper. I believe I've removed 30-ish lbs from the sled maybe a little more.
If I keep the sled I would do the tunnel, Timbersled front and rear suspension, this would drop another 65lbs but the sled would still be front heavy and big over all.
If I go with a Nytro it will have Timbersled front and rear suspension, CR tunnel and an under tunnel pipe. This should drop 70 lbs from stock and the design over all would be more nimble I would think? I've not ridden one so I'm not sure how they feel in bad conditions, (hard or crusty snow)
My 2 stroke preference would be an 800 Dragon 155, M8 153 , Summit X 154 and run them stock, maybe add a can and clutching but that's about it. YES I understand the quality isn't as good and they smoke BUT I ride once or twice weekly for 4-5 months and I want to enjoy the sled not fight it or feel like on harder snow days the sled is riding me. I think the only way to get around that is to go to another platform. I'm asking advice because I have no experience on the other sleds but know that if I dump anothr 4000.00 into my sled it's still going to be over 600 lbs ready to ride. If I do the tunnel, pipe & front/rear suspension on the Nytro I could get down to around 550 ready to ride, maybe even less with a few other things done, keeping the Yamaha dependability and 4 stroke benefits. This obviously wouldn't be cheap but in the long run a better investment compared to the 2 smokes. Those of you who have a Nytro and have ridden the mentioned other brands could you give me your comparisons on the weight, feel, etc. I really appreciate everyones input as I live in rural Alaska and don't have dealers around the corner , Thanks!
