Jr. Mtn. chassis?

I have been thinking much about this lately, what if sled manuf. made a scaled down version of their mtn. chassis. I know they make the 120's but I'm think'n of something around 300cc ? or so. I know AC makes the M-6, and I believe poo & doo also a 600 mtn.?, but the chassis is basically the same size as the 7 or 8's. I think it would be great for a kid at that age/size between the 120's and ?, I know there are mid 200 or mid 300 cc's but there not really a mtn. chassis.....or is there?. How cool would a 3/4 scale xp or dragon be.

It would seem appropriate if they filled the gap between the 120 and a full sized sled but there has to be some reason they don't make them. Maybe there are enough states that don't allow kids under a certain age to operate a sled and therefore demand would be low??? It would also be nice to find a sled that was super light and wouldn't crush the kid when they flipped it over.

I think it is something that really needs to be addressed. I think we would have a lot more kids getting to be great riders if they had machines they could ride. instead we have to try and make something work. Then the little ones end up getting ridden by the machines. Or we end up resigning to the fact we have to mod an old phazer so they have a machine that fits them.. They end up with cool machines but it sure would be easier if they offered a mid size machine factory with all the features of the full size mtn machines. At least thats my opinion.

Have you guy's seen some of those modded sno scoots that have been floating around on here? I had 2 of them back in the 90's and thought they would be a good base to start from. What ever happened to those guy's who were working on the ones that were posted on here earlier??? They were a kick used to race around the back lot racing the ex's son, was real fun, even with the 80cc engine they had.

The Freestyle was marketed at exactly that. The young teenager that could grow into liquid cooled sleds. 300 or 550f in the RF. Problem was, it looked like a grasshopper, and cost too much for a truly entry level sled. RF chassis is gone completely now.

EDIT: The Backcountry was the closest thing to a kids mtn sled.

I'm with Reeb -- the Freestyle was a good chasis to move up to from a 120. They are a bit hard to find, but well worth the time and effort to snatch one up if you can. I paid $1800 for a Freestyle 300f, then immediately extended the tunnel, dropped the gears and added a 136x2 track. I put a pair of Pilot 6.9s on front and viola, for under $2500 I have a great learning sled for a 9 year old. The narrow ski stance is great for teaching them to try and start pulling over the sled. The 350 lb weight is great for when they think they can climb something bigger than the sled can handle<g>

That's an awesome little sled

I think there is definitely a nitch for it, the 120 is more or less just for the yard but there are lots of phazers and Indy 340's out there that make great sleds with minimal work and go where the longer sleds do because of the weight.

i started a few years ago on a polaris indy 440 fan it was amazing in the serria nevada mtns by tahoe wasnt as fast as the 800 but was so light it went every were

My nephew used a Doo 440 fan. He long tracked and geared it and it works great. My wife rides a Freestyle Backcountry and loves it.I take it out boondocking and in the really tight stuff it works well even at my slim trim 225 lbs. Unfortunatley Doo dropped it for 2010.
