Jones Pass

I have to say as a longtime rider/skier at jones pass my patience is really being tried by the rude non motorized users. Their attitude is pushing me away from JP. The kill them with kindness route just leaves you with a sour taste. As much as I would like to roost them, you have to just keep smiling and waving. But this year was too much. I may have to say goodbye to my old friend Jones Pass and find a new local area where the drive is short, the people are scarce and the snow is deep!

I have some sad news for you....

I'm always nice.....until they do something to piss me off. Then I don't give a $hit and treat them accordingly. Don't let these pussies push you around. They might talk big but they got no balls when it comes down to it.

I grew up in Empire and rode Jones Pass with my grandparents and parents. I haven't ridden Jones since 1998 when a group of skiers was stopped in the road and wouldn't let us pass.

Since then I have ridden lots of other places and prefer them more. However it still hurts to lose a riding area because some people don't want to share. The skiers have the entire front range since most of it is now Wilderness. Maybe we should start a "Friends of Jones Pass". There is a similar group called "Friends of Berthoud Pass" that promotes skiing and snowboarding but no snowmobiling.

I wanna ride Berthoud bad! One of these days I will too.

I've gone back & forth about the cat op up there, but I think that's the main issue. Things were gradually getting busier till they showed up, and now it's just gotten obnoxious. I've only been there a few times this year, but the problem with that is that it feeds right into what they want & what works well for them. We need to go there & just tear the SH** out of the slopes so the skiers have no desire to ski there anymore.

It's funny Jason, you guys are about the only ones up there that I respect anymore & try to stay off of things for.

My next time up, the dragon line is getting destroyed.

JP

I like riding JP!! but there are tons of rude people up there. just remember the helmet is for keeping your head safe not there heads. If you give in to them and stop riding there it gives them fuel for there fire! That lets them know that if they act rude enough the sledders will stop going to there favorite places and they will act worse everywhere! :scared:

OH yea maybe next time one of them gets hurt lets ski up to help them and see if they like that!!:decision:

I appreciate that Kaleb. Its funny I am starting to feel the same way about the cat. I have had a couple of run ins with the guides as well. I agree with you regarding the cat and I also agree with the others that are saying if we leave they win. So, I try to beat the cat to the runs and ski the crap out of them and then hammer it with my sled. I am so nice to the skiers/skinners/snowshoers. It would be nice to have a little back as well.

Btw, I got a sweet photo of you ripping a line at JP, skis up. I will send and post as soon as I have it, (took with a friends camera).

Screw them. Next time don't wave, don't be nice and tear up there runs. If they want non-motorized runs they have Berthoud. Getting really tired of these attitudes in the BC. Just spent a winter educating BC skiers how to use snowmobiles for access and now they love it. The old school die hards from the front range that ski Jones can lick my balls. I don't even like Jones for snowmobiling but I'm gonna head over from WP and destroy some lines, *******s.

bethoud pass is not all to hard to get into. And hells of fun when you do! if you know where the vasqez river is the trail right next to it does the trick. no one is ever on that side of winterpark to see you get there either.

Its a "water research" road is what the sign says. says no ohv but nothing about over the snow and i ran into a few peeps including the ones who showed me the way. Before this year it was more of a boondock but they have cut a huge gap over the mountain for a fire line that goes just behind the ski area that im sure has many downed trees but we never felt any. ive also heard of people comming from johns pass and meeting on the same trail. there is also some cool little cabins in the woods along the first part of the trail. i suppose they might be rescue huts? ive tried to get there in the summer on dirt bikes but failed because of snow drifts.

and yes im sure the first idiot to park at the top of berthoud and ride out will be the one who makes us all look bad. just dont be a idiot. and ride with people you can trust and rely on.

As much as we all want to don't ride Berthoud, begging you. It would send a really bad message.
As for Jones. The guys that are giving the snowmobilers a hard time are employed by some hard core sled heads. I know them personally.
So next time they give you **** put them in there place. I'm still going to wreck some runs for fun tomorrow though....

Anyone coming from Jones to there is riding in wilderness.

#1, don't ride in wilderness, #2, think before you post on a public forum about riding in wilderness ESPECIALLY right after I post a map showing you that it's wilderness.

Your sig says grand lake... if you really live in grand county, I would think this should be simple stuff to figure out.

After my slide this year, I was "targeted" as "the guy" who was riding wilderness (yeah, I showed them where i was when it happened, and there's no way it was in wilderness, but about 500 yards from the edge) and they've told other people as well that I personally have been riding the wilderness... I'm assuming another item spread by the jackazzes in the cat op. Either way, grand county has been stepping up patrol & looking out for people, so it's not that hard to figure out it's not the best idea.
