I was watching Larry King earlier and they had Jesse Ventura on there. I really knew nothing about the guy before then(besides the fact that he was an Independant and former Governor of MN).

I must say I agree with alot of the stuff he said, especially the part about how the 2 party system doesn't work for everyone, some of us are forced to pick someone who only agrees with some of our beliefs while the other agrees with the rest of our beliefs.

Just wondering what everybody thinks of him, if he's a good guy or if he's just another politician that likes to talk the talk but can't walk the walk.

theres been talk about him running for mn senator. i hope he does. i know he would win for pres if he ran. when he was govener he sure got s h i t changed

He was on the Howard Stern Show this morning. I was really going along with him and his ideas...until he started talking about 9/11 and basically implying that he was buying into some of the conspiracy theories.

After that he lost me.

He is far from the typical Politician, He couldn't be bought so to speak. Some people loved that fact, and some not. He had a huge voice in saving the Twins from Contraction. I think we could benefit from someone like himning for the Oval Office, but I do remember him saying, he would never run.

I listened in on Sirius ...he has a lot of good points .....regarding the 2 party deal ...

Actually, we have lots of political parties, just the same two of them are usually out front.

The so-called "two party system" is a result of good ol' American competition.
It is a reflection of our society. Most of us are moderates to some degree, and as Americans we like winners. From there the logic is pretty easy...it's not too difficult for moderates to compromise in order to back a winner. Get enough people to bend that way and voila'...same two parties vying for the White House over and over.

To try and force some kind of "fairness" policy on our elections is #1) Not constitutional, and #2) not American

That said, Jesse was a breath of fresh air, politically. He spoke his mind and people responded. He spoke his mind once to often and they turned on him. Jesse said that religion was for the "weak-minded".

I'm sure he's not alone in that opinion, but even political maveriks like him need to be conscious of their constituent's sensibilities. America is a generally church going country and Minnesota is home to the worlds 2nd largest Lutheran population (Germany #1).

Taking a shot at the faithful was political suicide, and ultimately Jesse's undoing.

I wonder if he could stay a maverik in the Congress. Either way I'd like to see him run.

He would be a breath of fresh air................except he would put us more in debt than we are now. He was good for rebates, kinda like Boosh is right now, but in the end we all paid the price as he put us so far in debt we still arent out.

Exactly He makes some good points but he's too bull headed to shut his yap when he should. Unfortunately he's a 9/11 conspiracy theorist and this is one of those cases when he should shut his yap but won't. That alone will keep him out of the big house.

However he did make for some real good entertainment when he was governer, You think Bill or W give you opportunities for comedy? they don't hold a candle to Jesse!

His new book, Don't Start The Revolution Without Me, was a good read. About his "conspiracy" ideas. Writing about conspiracy theories will get more sales than the same old crap, so I think that is why he is talking about them. Though he does write about the CIA and how they interviewed him after he became governor. When I read that I thought, Ok Jesse has lost his mind. Well, the CIA actually confirmed that they did in fact interview Ventura after he became governor. They said it was a "training" session. So maybe what he says has some truth to it. As far as 9/11 goes. Do a little research on WTC building 7. All I know, there is more to the event than what the American people have been told.

One thing about Jesse Ventura, he speaks his mind and believes in being an independent thinker instead of getting "told" what to do by a political party. It will be interesting to see if he runs for the MN senate, I'm sure he would make some waves. Though with the two party system, his vote in the senate wouldn't really matter.

He's an idiot!

He's an idiot sound bite...

He says stuff just for reaction, knocks obvious stuff to get people shaking their heads the same direction, and then provides little to no value solutions.

I think his military contribution is constantly over-stated and exploited - not that I don't respect it having served myself, but it was 40 years ago, many have served and paid the ultimate price. Quit hanging your hat on it (see McCain).

Jesse is bored and missed the attention. His effectiveness as a leader, political or otherwise, is negligible at best. I worked for the state when he was elected to office. We had golden opportunities to leverage his popularity to promote employment and productivity. He and his handlers squandered just about all of them.

I appreciate what he stands for in a fresh and unfiltered perspective, I just don't think he's the guy. The frightening thing is the protest vote might just be enough to give him another shot.

Yep, good old rebate man...

Me being in MN I would never vote for him again the guy was a freaking joke. Fresh air yes, but a damned idiot. Sometimes you do need to shutup or be serious. If another state wants him they can have him.

But the comedy shows would have a blast with him.

Being from Minnesota and enduring the Ventura era I can say that in the end he is just another politician. Hell I even voted for him, but only because the R candidate sucked ans much as the D side.

Here is what we got from his era.

2 Tax rebates that were distributed to all citizens of MN. Even the welfare bums that do not pay taxes and file a return got the rebate. This is redistribution of wealth no matter how you look at it. It would have been better to just cut the tax rate and make the cuts permanent.

He increased spending on education by over a billion dollars. This increase has shown negligible gains in the level of education that our kids get. Throwing money at the system does not resolve the problems.

We also got a billion dollar boondoggle called light rail. This little choo-choo goes from the MSP airport to the MOA (Mall of America), then to down town Minneapolis. Making the run real close to the Metro-dome. It was billed as a first step to reduce traffic congestion into Minneapolis. The problem is that it has done very little to reduce traffic, because it running where the major traffic delays are.

Oh and he also was promoting a unicameral legislator, in some ways this could be a good thing, but with the clowns (professional politicians) we have elected this would be a fast track to higher taxes every session. At least in the Bi-bicameral system that we have the are so busy playing partisan politics all the time it takes a longer time to raise our taxes because of the bickering.

thanks for reminding me of that stuff 6mile. Didn't he cap or slash vehichle registraion as well? Especially for his nice Hummer?

Yeah he did the vehicle registration thing which is OK if you drive a vehicle that cost 50K or trade in for new every 3 years. It bites the average guy in the *** as your paying $105 across the board until the vehicle is like 10 years old then it drops to 38.50. Pissed me off when I bought a ranger that when new was 15K and after 3 years under the old system would have been down to the 38.50 tags. Instead I paid 105 for all 7 years I owned it and got a whopping $2500 out of it when I upgraded. It looked good at first but sucked hard in the long run.

The KQ morning show used to do some funny chit on him back then. Great entertainment.

I rarely speak on a political thread. I don't like being bashed by a bunch of kids but I was wondering what the Minnesotians would say about Jesse. My folks live in Ely and they said he was a political joke. Be carefull when you vote. Watch, look, and listen.

:beer;:D:beer;

I liked when he was governor of MN. I voted for him both times and was satisfied with the job he did for the most part. Personally MN has a better one now but Jesse was good, and even though this isn't the important thing he was entertaining.

I feel now though he has gone a little of the deep end. He's still the same person but his views and thoughts have become a little bit odd let's just say.

Would I vote for him, ummmm that would be a tough call right now. I can say for sure who I wouldn't vote for but I just don't think Jesse has what it takes to be President.

93X Half-Aced morning show as some good bits on The Body still, Fish Police is funny!

I gotta say RJ is right, we have a fine governor now. Course I would vote for Jeese in the Senate before I would vote for Californias Al Franken...

Don't forget, Jesse Ventura did have the highest approval rating of any MN governor. His current views may get a little radical, but I think it is good to have someone that will speak their mind, and not worry what other people will think. In this day and age, if you speak out of the "norm", your attacked for your views. The two party system in this country is a joke, this country is a two party dictatorship. I believe that he did a decent job as Governor, and if he wouldn't have had the two parties at his throat and the media (controlled by the the two parties) trying to make news instead of report news, he would have done an outstanding job. I do not agree with everything he says, but it is nice that we Independents have a voice.
