Jaws Pipe on an 04 600ho

I noticed my 04 hawk 600 has a jaws pipe. I was just wondering if they came like this from the factory or was it an add-on from the previous owner?

Here are a couple pics...

Can anyone recommend I good repainting proceedure and Brand of paint for the Pipes???

-I just replaced my "Stock" could be a problem Rings on my 04 600 and I have the pipe off. Now would be a great time to refinish it.

Thanks J&L.

Yeah I’m also planning on cleaning up my pipe. I wonder if it is too pitted from rust to have it ceramic coated, or some other kind of coating?

.

I don't think it's not too late, they will probably glass bead blast it which will remove all the rust and prep it for the ceramic.

-Is the Bar-B-Q paint spray on?

They can ceramic coat some gnarly stuff I would not worry about it. The Bar-B-Q does work but does not last as long as a good header paint like VHT i have used it on my race car headers and it looks good and lasted for a long time. PS it also comes in many different colors instead of just Black.

whats with the paint

we used 1500 degree paint last year on josh's pipe and burt off after one good ride. I am trying BBQ paint this time hoping for better results. Ceramic coating will be next atempt. what exactly is VHT, where to get it?

Personnally I'd go with the Ceramic coating or the other type of coating that IDBroken mentionned that widthstand higher temps.

The reason behind that: heat would stay a bit more into the pipe and would not heat up our forks as bad, so less fork oil cooking ! That would extend the life of our fork oil while reducing the temperature under the hood... less overheating in spring time... "cooler" running engine...

And of course it's around 250-300$ versus 7 or 8 $ !!!

J&l . Vht is the name of a high heat paint designed for exhaust and does not completely cure until heated to around 500 degrees you can purchase it at most local parts stores like napa or the like. You can also purchase it from Summit racing. It sounds like The Bar-B-Q paint worked well for others and might be cheaper. But Tlkprod is correct in the fact that ceramic coating is the best way to go. And you can also get than done in black.
