Jaws Pipe info

While measuring the stinger ID on my Jaws pipe yesterday (stinger is the piece of bent tube at the end of the pipe right before connecting to the silencer), I noticed something pretty interesting for all 800 owners out there... The ID of the stinger seem to be around 41 to 42mm (On mine actually, if someone with a 600 could validate what size is his, I would appreciate !!!), which then makes it a perfect size for the 800 HO motor... But I was still questionning the exhaust performance at high rev, I even had the idea of buying a stock or aftermarket 800HO pipe and rework it to fit the Hawk chassis...

What I saw yesterday was (once again !) unexpected...
Here's what may interest you guys, have a look at the attached photo :

There is a freakin piece of 38 (ish) mm ID ube INSIDE THE FREAKIN STIGNER !!! So that makes it run perfect for the 600HO... According to my sources, 600ho & 800 ho pipes are exaclty the same because of roughly the same measurments on the design (opening port time in degree (205), Exhaust port ID, peak RPM similar...) except for the Stigner, that should be bigger. So, simple fix, get that freakin thing out of the way and here you have a 41mm ID stigner. That should allow for better top end ON THE 800 or on a 744 (or is it 766??? anyway, a big bored 600ho), better heat "exhausting" as well and then less detonation (both of my rings shows major sign of detonation... 1 season... two thumbs up !)

I beleive someone else than me & Cailen had this pipe on the 800ho right ?
Anyway... just wanted to let you know about it !

The more we know, the better we understand !

Once we've found all of what AD Boivin did to "un-tune" our engines we might be able to finally make them "run right" !!! HAhahaha !

Now i'm questionning the mapping of the MPEM system...

Thanks, that's good info on the Jaws pipe.
I just finished putting an 800HO motor into my 600 and was using the 600 Jaws pipe on it. I did use the 800HO y-pipe though, and I got my 600 MPEM remapped for the 800.

that ring in your pipe made it run better for your 600 right? did the guy who had your machine before you do it? i heard of peeps doin this to get more power! welding in a washer or something.

jaws pipe

I'm sure when I had my pipe off it had that same reducer in it like you show in your pic. Mine is 05 600ho. So it is good for the 600 right?

Rudeawakening,
Sorry If I had it sound wrong, this "ring" is good for a 600 and that's what the Jaws pipe is designed to fit as well: the 600HO motor. It is not good for the 800s. It came stock from the factory like that when I bought it and I was totally aware that this was a 600 ho pipe... !

This "reduction in diameter" is used to restrict flow and one of the thing it does is to build more pressure in the pipe for the 600, but it's too much flow restriction for an 800. It can't breathe right with this piece of tubing in there.

That might be a reason why there is not THAT much of a gap between the power of a 600 Snow-Hawk and an 800 Snow-Hawk.

I don't know about the other monster Mattech exhaust system (I don't call that a pipe, I call that an "exhaust system"), I rode it once on my buddy's 800 back east and the front end just feel so heavy... that I just didn't wanted one on mine. In my opinion, adding weight at the front up there is just the worst place to do so.

oh ic! some one told me that if you weld a metal washer to restrect it even more, you will get more power! i was told that the 600 jaws pipes where detuned from the factory!

It was, indeed, detuned from Jaws. ADB told them to. Maybe ADB had already in mind that they would be using this pipe on the 800 and that adding that piece of tube in a larger stigner is easier than cut a small stigner and reweld a bigger one...

We welded a ring inside the tail of the pipe, necking it down another 2-3 mm and increased the back pressure even more for the 600, and it does make a noticable difference, for the better, in power. Steve

You have to send it to BRP to have it remapped right ?

Yeah, I sent it back to BRP to get it remapped. They can put on the timing curve from basically any MPEM motor for you. You just have decide which curve will work best for your application.
