One would have thought that leading Democratic senators who claim to be interested in finding other sources of funding to replace American dollars in Iraq, in helping Iraq spend its own money on its own people, and in lowering the price of gasoline for American citizens, would have been all for it. Instead, Senators Chuck Schumer, John Kerry, and Claire McCaskill wrote a letter to Secretary of State Rice asking her "to persuade the GOI [Government of Iraq] to refrain from signing contracts with multinational oil companies until a hydrocarbon law is in effect in Iraq." The Bush administration wisely refused to do so, but the resulting media hooraw in Iraq led to the cancellation of the contracts, and helps to explain why Iraq is doing oil deals instead with China.

I am at loss for words here.

Here is a better article for what happened

Got to love the weekly standard BS... you guys do no it is an opinion magazine, right...

Nice little wiki quote...

Because they feed the rage. We bring the pain to the liberal media. I say that mockingly, but it's true somewhat. We come with a strong point of view and people like point of view journalism. While all these hand-wringing Freedom Forum types talk about objectivity, the conservative media likes to rap the liberal media on the knuckles for not being objective. We've created this cottage industry in which it pays to be un-objective. It pays to be subjective as much as possible. It's a great way to have your cake and eat it too. Criticize other people for not being objective. Be as subjective as you want. It's a great little racket. I'm glad we found it actually.

You guys are tools... and being used for someone elses agenda, but hey, if you feel good about it....

tools....

Fonda sold out to the commies years ago. She is dirt, scum, and anyone that disagrees is the same. Does anybody remember Viet Nam???? Come on ruffy defend her. Dumb head!

In this instance, Kerry is not a piece... from an better article about this, like the one I posted, there defense for waiting to sign any contracts was that it would give the different groups something else to fight about BEFORE the rules are in place...

I think it was smart to try and do something about it, I mean look at how families behave with money, and these groups really hate each other...

I think the China part is BS too..... Oh man, how much more wrong of a story can you guys get?......

No, if anything for a conspiracy theorist, they helped big oil by letting international companies pick up all these little contracts with small profits.., while helping show that US is not tied to big oil... as much...

The big contracts are soon to come, and you will see western big oil dominate those. The Chinese, Venz, and the others got the scraps.... dinner will be served at a latter date.

Anyways, it was an open process, companies could choose if they wanted to participate... China wasn't the only contract they signed with, and China has been there for a while too.....

Yah, tool is harsh, but dang if it doesn't seem fitting from the mantra of the weekly standard..... Pointing out others lack of objectivity by being as subjective as possible.

Truly is having your cake and eating it too.....

Oh, and I was always a tuff guy, I just didn't show it as much..:p

Fascinating, you've provided us with an even more detailed account of how Kerry and Co. sold US interests out to China...Thank you. Let's take a look at this:

“Sustainable stability in Iraq should be the top priority, not no bid contracts for Big Oil.

Any time I hear a left-wing politician say the phrase "Big Oil" my skin begins to crawl. There is NO SUCH THING as "big oil" unless they're referring to Saudi Aramco, Gazprom, or what is the Chineese national oil comapny, PetroChina or whatever?

This is absolutley wonderful! Let's let the country we just "liberated" give the no-bid contract to China, because by god, they are NOT "Big Oil"! Thank you John Kerry!

His reasoning that "The last thing Iraq needs is blah blah blah ...."

How convienient of an excuse is this? This ******* has done _NOTHING_ positive for Iraq, he's done nothing positive for America, and if you think this was ANYTHING but political posturing by him on behalf of all his left-wing supporters, you're absolutley insane.

The bottom line is, the scum****s, sold us out. It's that simple. What difference does it make to Iraq? They gave a no-bid contract to China, so somehow because this isn't  "Big Oil" the issues they claimed for wanting to stifle the western companie's deal are somehow invalid?

They claim that some 40 companies were interested in the deals ... well, of course they were. I'm sure all of these other companies had the resources readily available to get right in there and start producing a vast amount of oil as soon as ExxonMobil, Shell, and BP do ... why after all, all oil companies are created equal, right?

You are a complete fool to think what Kerry and whoever else did here was in the best interests of Iraq or the US, this was the Democrats doing what they do best, creating political issues for themselves to scare up votes with.

I'm sure China couldn't be happier.

And of course you are claiming the NY Observer is not an opinionated magazine.Swampy:D:D:beer;

That one is referenced by the weekly standard article...;) It was also consistent with three other articles that I read....

Wolf in sheep's clothing? :p Or is it just sheep?

How did US senators give an Iraqi contract to China? Why are we against China getting contracts? The no-bid contracts were the small stuff and not very lucrative... The big contracts that are to be coming up will make lots of money, and you will see "Big Oil" very much involved in that.....

I might be a fool, I might be naive, but if you take away all the political separatist lingo, forget who is saying it, and focus on what is being said, a different perspective is found..... FWIW.....

You know, everyone says the dems hate big oil, but why is it that when prices are so high, that the oil companies make so much money? If the dems are responsible for high prices, wouldn't the oil companies be thankful?

Roll it around a little bit..... I think both groups are benefiting from the supposed hate relationship... I am sure they are laughing about it, right to the voter box and the bank....

Oh, and "sold US interests out to China" ?..... So are you saying we went over there so that "Big Oil" could get lucrative contracts?
