jackson hole to west yellowstone..??.?

making the drive on friday.. ive done it a few times but, never through the park. figured since ive never seen the south end, maybe i should go that way?

any input?

I'd say it's a nice drive, and it's actually shorter that way (distance wise, not necessarily time)

I've only done it once or twice, but it was worth doing.

You shouldn't have a traffic problem this time of year Jesse. I wouldn't recommend it during peak summer season though, it's a frikin time consuming nightmare:mad:.
I know HK contractors is doin some road work in Teton park, but I'm not sure if they've started yet.
Say hello to Kurt for me:D

So the park is open to drive through, I have to go from Boise to Green Bay and want to take a short cut?

no kidding about summertime...Rental RVs EVERYWHERE! And every time a buffalo is on the side of the road, guaranteed they will pull over without warning...

Isn't that the truth, I couldn't believe how many people were even in the park at 5-6am staring at wildlife.

Shortcut and Yellowstone don't belong in the same phrase;)
Should be a good drive and traffic this early in yr will be at a minimum.

Now isn't bad.
When school lets out and vacations start is when it is REAL bad.
I like to go the last week of september.

This really isn't pertinent to the thread, but very vital info to anyone entering the park through W. Yellowstone.( The westgate).
14 miles into the park you reach Madison jct. It's a "T". You either turn north to go to Norris, canyon, & tower. South takes you to old faithful & towards the south entrance. HK cont. is also doing some major road work on the north road this year & the road will be closed to all traffic in Aug.
This means every vehicle entering from, or heading to, the westgate will have to travel south to get anywhere the rest of the year:(. Ain't gonna be no "Grand loop" as it is called.
It's gonna be a zoo:D.

I forgot one other detail. Even though the road won't close until Aug, work has already begun & you'll face horrendous pilot car lines.

Dont do it, if you take the north route, go from west up the highway and stay out of the park, have driven to Minneapolis from IF a few times now and only got suckered into the park only once, won't ever do that again.
