So last year when the Evo stuff was comin out. I asked questions regarding how the belts were holding up. How the chaines were holding up. And was always told no problems at all nothing to worry about.
So this summer bought the bc 250 with all the Evo goodies first trip out I blew 4 belts. So I go out aand buy the clutch to fix the problem. Out riding again. And guess what the chain or something In the chain case lets go secondary sounds freely. I sure like being a guinea pig. So frustrated driving to the mountains and having to rent a sled to ride after all the money spent.

Hmmm. . . . Well I honestly don't feel the chain is the issue. The issue lies in the tensioner in my opinion.

As for the belts I do believe that not all sleds have issues. For one mine does not. Just much like how some stock turbos have issues with the belts and others don't. I am not sure what the differences are.

Well, even with a stock sled you need a backup. I'm quite glad my girlfriend likes sledding because now I can justify one... :)

Btw, you should frequent Hardcoresledder. Those folks over ther might not know what carving is, but they stud the piss outa everything and are much harder on the post clutch drive train. They've been blowing up chaincases due to the ****ty tensioner and snapping the jackshaft in half for a while now. The drive train in the new Arctic Cata is weaksauce.

I have a non belt blower evo 275 with all the lipstick/carbon/track/suspension stuff done. I'm on my second belt in 1400 miles which is fantastic, but lent the sled to a buddy and the chaincase exploded 10 minutes into his ride he said. Worst explosion they have ever seen at WKM, blew apart and into the oil tank even. Pretty impressive. Why do stuff half a$$ when you could blow things up good?! haha

I decided to check my chain in my EVO fitted 2013 T1100
Glad I did as the gears are all good but the problem is the chain tension The stock unit doesnt tighten the chain... I have over 600 miles and when I tore it apart this past week- the adjuster was all the way up in the 1:00 position.... all the way out...... so with sleds with this HP it is not a wonder things are snapping or shearing....

Best take a afternoon and check- it is good insurance, and only cost you 12 oz of chain lube..:clock: and not a entire case

Non-belt blower here!

I gotta say... I can ride half as hard as everyone I've ever riden with and get to the same places. I'm on my first belt. Obviously buying a 2012 this year and watching what works had made a huge difference too! Venting and throttle control. Thats the best bet. You could also leave it stock! Just saying.

I did not get mine apart before it blew the chain but I bet money my tensioner was not holding. I will be installing a manual tensioner on mine before I put to many more miles on.

got my belt issues fixed up, CPC torsional kit & Carlisle belt at $89.00 did the trick. the better chain & manual tensioner are on the way. Love my 250

X2

Charlie, considering how many people have issues with the sleds stock, it seems a bit tough to blame evo for the problems.
As stated above, EVO is not to blame for A/C's chain & belt issues - in fact Jim has spent a ton of time & money (as has Gene @ WKM, Eric @ Racin Station, among others) to try and beef up the driveline on these sleds. Whenever you add horsepower and torque, it is simply common sense that the remainder of the powertrain will be under more stress. It costs money to build hp, and put it to the ground.
EVO's performance products have delivered as advertised, something that cannot be said for all of the aftermarket industry. While I haven't blown a belt or chain yet, I also am not running a stock clutching system or driveline, and I made damn sure the to blueprint the chassis before I started, and made changes where I thought they were needed...

I've yet to blow a belt with my BC250 kit, put another 250km over last couple days with a couple of big climbs but mostly played in the trees. Sled can only handle 10-15min hard riding then needs some cool down time or it will start to run inconsistent.

I have 500 hard miles on my 250 evo kit. no problems with belts. The chain is a cat deal and my is still holding on strong.

I have 500 miles on my 290 SC and about 500 on the 250 BC and 800 on the stocker 1100T with 215 reflash. None has had a chain problem. Pulled the cases apart to check the chains a week ago and all is good and the tensioners seem to be working. For our sleds the 250 BC is the belt eating monster, seriously doubt it has anything to do with the power level. The SC290 went close to 500 on the stock belt, which i am pretty happy with considering it has been riden very very hard on every ride from day one.

belts

I have to say its not evos problem, I have a belt eater, three of us have exactly the same sled, 270bc, and set up and mine destroys belts if you ride it the others have no problem. checked every thing 20 times and the center to center is the only issue as its long.
the team was a great improvement over stock and got the rpms under the rev limiter
stock cat belts suck they dont fit till you wear them in and are short, the gates fit from the start and seem to hold up well. I am hoping the new gates evo belt will be the answer along with a new primary from cat.. julio

What my group has learned about the belts is, do not allow them to get too hot and then whack the throttle from a stop at the bottom of a hill. I believe anyway if you can manage the belt temp it's life span increases significantly.

I have an Evo 290 kit that is running at 305. I am 250 ready to ride. With all the snow stuck to my sled and the base weight of the sled I am pretty sure the whole package weighs 1000lbs. So I have the immovable object especially on steep hills with 3 feet of wet snow. Now the Evo 290 is the unstoppable force. Some thing has to give. I really would love to get 3-500 miles out of a belt but I am a realist right now. I REALLY like the way that Jim at EVO is addressing the driveline problems. Believe me they know if they abandon us with all that power and no way to get it to the snow they are screwed to. They are on the clutching problems daily(along with RACINSTATION and WKM and MBMS and others) have got a chain and gear fix and I am sure a jackshaft on the way.

Sorry it wasn't the chain it was the pot metal jack shaft that broKe.

Last time I checked AC made the jack shaft not EVO. So what your saying is you put a programmer on your truck and you knock the tranny out of it. It's the company's fault you bought the programmer from !? Come on man think about it before you start blaming people.
