it started with a bog

then it bogged again
then a few more times
then it was clearly misfiring
check engine light, only intermittently able to rev over 4K
threw in a fresh plugs, misfire ceased, idled smoothly
crossed fingers and made it up the last climb out of the backcountry.
Ran strong for a few mins, made a couple full throttle pulls
Then right back to bogging and limp mode
Limped back to the trail head, occasionally pull up to 6K rpms, but bog kept coming back
Had to push it into the bed of my truck.

Plugs looked brownish, dry.
Couldn't spot any loose wires/connections
Pulled all snow from exhaust and off of intakes a couple times, no effect

Sled has been running well, prob around 150mi now. DEEP day today, ran perfect for 4 hours leading up to this.

Off to the dealer tomorrow but throwing this out in case anyone has an idea for a simple fix.

Sounds like it went in to limp mode do to detonation. If that is what happened you must turn sled off and re-start to get it out of limp. Manual has section on codes and how to read them starting on page 39.

check your ecm plug, it is right behind your oil res, may look connected but give it a yank, if it comes apart push it back together until it clicks. have seen several with your symptoms with this problem, including mine...

Check you TPS wire plug connection too. Had to tow mine out on the second ride. Dealer said it was zip tied too tightly to the frame and was unplugging itself at the connection.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I had previously went through and checked all my connections but I'll look over them again. The intermittent nature of the issue had me thinking wiring from the start. For some reason it ran well for a few minutes right after the plug swap but maybe just a red herring, esp since the original plugs looked fine.

EDIT - Also, just to be clear. The sled was shut off and restarted several times during the course of this ordeal. The check engine light would clear for a moment but would come right back. The stumbling, rough idle and mis-fire were present on every restart except for very briefly after the plug swap.

Checked the ECM, was nice and tight. Could still turn out to be the TPS but I decided to drop it at the dealer. Crossing fingers that there's no hard-parts damage, eg piston scuffing. Will update with resolution when we get it sorted.

Just got word from the dealer that my TPS is hosed. Apparently, when hooked up to the computer, it's showing values as if the the throttle position is jumping around even when it is just idling. Compression test looks good and seems that the engine protection mode may have done a good job of dumping fuel to preserve the motor. A new part is enroute but looks like I might not have it for the upcoming holiday weekend.

Looks like it's a bad batch TPS out on some of the pro's.
Good to hear that the electronic safety is working, to bad that you lose a good sledding holiday.

I would really take the time to check out the Throttle saftey switch in the handlebar-throttle-block like Stang suggested.

This is often missed by many techs/dealers/owners.

Well, maybe it was the throttle safety switch...

Picked up my sled from the dealer on Thurs, seemed to be running fine. They said it stopped throwing codes once the TPS was replaced. I made it about 5 min down the trail before it started doing the same thing again. I was just about to drop into a fairly committing line when it started cutting out again. Limped back to truck and pushed it into the bed again.

I'm under a 150 miles at the moment and just watched a 4' powder weekend fade away. Taking it into the shop again tomorrow. I'll press them to look at the throttle saftey switch. The check engine light came on again, so there's hopefully a new code that will be helpful.

Some of the other posts ..... seem to have similar problems and they had their injectors replaced and it seems to clear up alot of runability issues.

Mine was one of the ones that the injectors were replaced on. It cured my problem but mine also never did throw a code for trouble.

I dropped mine with a different dealer and we discussed the throttle safety switch and injectors among other possible electronic gremlins. These guys seem really on the ball with the Pro issues so hopefully I'll be back up and running later this week.

Well, dealer was able to reproduce the issue in the shop. Tore through the sled and reset all the electrical connections and the issue stopped. Ran it several times, and appeared good. The issue I observed on the trail is consistent with a loose connection or bad ground. Sled seems to loose all power when it happens.

I took it out tonight to try it out, first 25 mins or so (plus several minutes for warm-up) went well with not a single issue. I was mostly jammin up and down a road, catching powder triangles off to the side here and there to make sure it was all good while waiting for my riding partner to show up. After a bit I got what I thought was a stumble, looked and saw no check engine light, second-guessed myself that it might not have actually happened. Turned the sled back towards the parking lot and seemed to be fine, dropped into some powder and up on a side hill, trying to get it to stumble again. At about the peak of the sidehill, the sled stumbled hard and spit me off. No big deal except that it rolled down the hill on top of me and pinned my head. I almost never ride alone but was just bangin around on this road waiting for my bud. Scarry as sh!t being alone, head stuck under the track of a sled and buried in the snow. Not easy to breath, hard to get leverage. Slowly, I managed to dig trench for my head with my right hand and get free. Got the sled back up and from there on out, it continued to intermittently stumble. Had to get a running start to load back in my truck.

Sketchy!

Trying to keep a positive attitude but I've got a very expensive sled that I can't ride while the powder days just pass by. This thing has so little use on it, I'd really like Polaris to replace it with a new sled. F-n sucks!

Back to the dealer tomorrow, to see what they can figure out. I know all things mechanical break sometimes but this is ghey.

getting pinned under the sled w/ no help would be scary! Hope the dealer gets this figured out soon for you!
