island park questions

Looking at going to island park to ride with a guy a buddy is buying a sled from here on snowest.

Any cabin reccomendations, we prefer cabins or houses to rent????? Any particular area to stay?

Can you ride out of island park or is it best to trailer up to unload?

What elevation is typical?

Thanks for your help

Pretty much anywhere you can ride right from any cabin in IP. There are a few right around IP village you may have to haul across the road to stay out of trouble but most all of em you can ride right from the cabin.

What kind of riding are you looking for?

If you want to ride some trails and just play in some powder look closer to Last Chance or Ponds lodge. There is a bunch of area to explore down toward Mesa Falls and over to the Baker Draw back to the Fish Creek hiway.

Out toward Yale Creek and Shotgun there is a lot of steep technical stuff up north toward Reas Peak and Hell Roaring and Mount Jefferson.

Up by Macks Inn, Sawtelle Mt Resort you've got all of the flats and loops up over Two Top, Black Canyon and Mosquito Cutoff into West Yellowstone.

Where ever you decide the snow is awesome this year.

Elevation is about 8000 to over 10,000 on top of Jefferson.

If you are loking for a great abin to rent you can look at islandparkidaho.com and look at the Centennial View cabin. It has great access from the road to the parking lot and also has the trail running right by it. It has 6 bredrooms and 3 bathrooms. It will easily sleep up 18 people.

Thanks guys,

We typically ride in teh trees, technical boon docking, not really much into chutes and stuff since we dont have turbos

I assume there are gas stations right there around the cabins?

I agree on Centennial View Lodge... Stayed there last year and very tough to beat for a group of people. It has a huge parking area, and the shotgun trail goes within a stones throw of the lodge.

Bedford area??

The guy we are talking with about meeting said he would show us around teh bedford area?????? Anybody know how close that is to IP?

I'm not familiar with the Bedford area. Where are you meeting him to pickup the sled?

Bedford is around 3 hours from IP... Better off staying in Alpine or getting a hotel in Idaho Falls/Jackson if that is where he wants to go. Bedford is about 45 minutes from Alpine, 2 hours from IF and hour 15 from Jackson. But only the crazy people ride up there, I'd steer clear. :)

We've stayed a few places, but we go back to The Pines. Ponds was the worst (both lodging and food).

The best food you'll find around is at the Trout Hunter in Last Chance. Lots of choices and killer portions for the price. We ate there almost every day. The Steak at the Pines is excellent.

There are gas stations in Last Chance, Elk Creek, Macks Inn and around IP Village. You can also get fuel at Shotgun and Ponds. I fill up at Elk Creek because they're friendly and extremely helpful. It helps that they're a few hundred yards from the Pines as well.
