Is your hood with an SLP pipe on a M8 being held up?

Just wondering if anyone else's hood is lying right on your SLP pipe? If so what are you doing to fix this so it doesnt melt?

Sounds like you may have put the Y-pipe in upside down. It should angle down toward the air box. SPL says to cut off one of the tabs that hold the screen also as it can touch.

They all touch, some lower the pipe by cutting the rubber block under the pipe, some add hood lift kits, but I just peeled back the heat tape on the intake and heated it with a torch or use a heat gun til its soft, then WEARING gloves push in and hold til it cools.....repeat until desired clearance is achieved then re-tape with heat tape......takes 10min...
Cheers
Chris

DO NOT TRIM THE RUBBER BUMPER UNDER THE PIPE! I did this and then it was touching the spark plug cap. I epoxied a chunk of rubber on top of the rubber bumper after i trimmed it to give more clearance and it melted on my last trip so i have to try again with some different rubber. I got an RKT hood lift to solve the hood clearance problems and it works great!

Goodan----chrisM8

Goodan, do as chrisM8 mentioned, I pulled the intake plenum off from the hood, layed it on the work bench and used a rental heat gun from lumber yard ( used for removing tile from floor) and just heated up the area where pipe is close and pushed it in a little bit, now have 3/4 inch clearance and no problems. Dont cut the rubber pad under pipe. Hood fits perfect looks correct. RickM

no rubbing or melting here. i have pulled my hood insulation and added heat tape.

Mine was touching the induction plenum where it crosses under the head light. There was a point that stuck down that was leaving a rub mark.

Used a heat gun to heat up the plenum enough to make it malleable and pushed and held it in place with a wet rag. It does get pretty warm, so you might want to wear gloves.

Worked out well and now have close to a 1/2" of clearance.

heat gun

heat gun is the way to go.

move the side panel out of the way. With the hood closed you can reach up and feel how close the plenum is to the pipe. I ended up with about 3/4" clearance.

Exactly what I did too.

SLP High Flow

Did anyone run the pipe for a while, then add a SLP High Flow to the air intake? Wondering if it is a worthwhile purchase. I have the pipe on a 09 M8, definately feels better, a little burble at the low range, but will put more time on. Just wondered if I should go ahead and order the high flow.

Get a timbersled intake and problem solved.

I took off my Firebreather when I installed my SLP pipe. Still haven't decided if I'm going to put it back on with a controller, take my chances without a controller, or just run the stock intake. An aftermarket intake does solve the issue though.:face-icon-small-coo
