is this P85 clutch any good?

knee deep in it

I have a clutch that I am thinking of putting onto my primary ride. I have new spring and weight but not sure if it is worth putting onto this clutch.

There is some pitting on the outer edge of the shieves, a groove in the inner part of both shieves. Also, when you take the spring out, the main bushing has significant play in it.

Is this clutch ok or should I just spring for a new one?

I dunno but it's fricken dirty, I'll tell ya that. :)

Is that the one you PMd me about?

I would not run that clutch as it stands. But it could be rebuilt and be fully usable assuming none of the inner hard parts are torn up.

Running a clutch with sloppy bushings is asking for crank issues.

sled guy, the bushing will have to be replaced because you are absolutely correct. The wobble will cause crank problems.

My concern is the groove in the lower shieves and the pitting on the outer edges. The groove was caused by a sled with too high an idle. Am I guaranteed that this clutch will have engagement issues? If so, then there is no point in replacing the bushing as I will just throw away the clutch.

Will the pitting on the outer edge of the sheives eat belts when the clutch is fully shifted out?

I doubt you will ever (ok, maybe occasionally) shift the clutch all the way out to where the pits are.

I can't really tell how deep that groove is, but I've seen some pretty deep ones, especially with that new rock hard Polaris belt, and they don't seem to have any problems with engagement.

i'd just buy a new one. with the effort, time, and cost to rebuild that one, and it needs a complete rebuild, you would be close to a new clutch. and from my experience, for whatever reason, rebuilds don't seem to last very long. so when you factor that in, you are ahead with a new clutch. but that is jmo.

Send it to Indydan on here for a $$$ rebuild.

If it is bad he should tell you and you are out postage.
