Is there decent riding in Vail?

Is there decent backcountry riding in vail area?

No!

Red & White is a great area to ride. Lots of different terrain, groomed trail system and not a ton of riders. Vail Pass is good because it is open early and usually has snow up to or past Memorial weekend. But you have to share with the skiers up there. There's also access to the Flat Tops from Coffee Pot road and a few other pockets here and there. Holy Cross City is a great ride as well. What are you looking for?

I am looking to be in the trees and more difficult terrain... How far do I have to travel to go? Are you local to this area?

Yep, lived here most of my life. Lots of good tree riding. In fact, that's the terrain that most people don't ride in.

It depends where you are traveling from. Most of the terrain is within 1/2 hour of the central part of the valley (Edwards).

I'm going to be in Vail over Thanksgiving, never been there before, not sure if I can just show up and try to figure it out on my own, or if someone has some good info, we will be staying at a timeshare (no idea where? We're bring sleds to get away from the in-laws ect.) If we can ride out of town great! If not, no biggy,any help is greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately you need to trailer to the trailhead Red and White is 10 min from downtown vail. Do a snow dance before you come. Check conditions on the CSA website here is the link

plenty of good riding to be had at Vail Pass.

The crowd and parking on the weekend is less than ideal...but during the week the place is a virtual ghost town.

Headed to Vail Tuesday after work, hopefully you have some good snow, also is there a day a snowmobile dealer in town that sells non-resident passes?

How's the snow at Vail, never been there but wanna get the new sled out for a smoke test and set it up a little, thinking about tomorrow.
